Fly Delta Watch True Blood

Posted by Shadaliza On February - 28 - 2009

Our Billsbabe Sister TooHandsomeBill reports this ……

“Calling all Billsbabes….you gotta fly Delta….on both national and international flights they offer True Blood on the HBO channel….whahooooo….so for however long your flight is, you are able to watch True Blood over and over and over again….makes for such an enjoyable flight….

Since I went to Paris last week I was lucky enough to experience the looping of TB…seeing Bill walk into Merlottes…yowzer, hold me back… “What are you?”

Bill made my 10.5 hour ride x 2 so enjoyable. Best part was I was flying standby and got first class both ways so I watched for free as I stretched out in my pseudo lounge chair sipping champagne….what a life…..”

And what’s even better than THAT is the aircraft we’ll be using will be a brand new 777-200LR, complete with full lie-flat sleeper suites up front and slim-line seats with a bit of extra leg room in the back. And (here’s where I plug the in-flight entertainment system) everyone on the plane gets Delta on Demand with more than 200 movies, 100 hours of HBO on demand, 100 hours of TV, a suite of games and 4,000 mp3s. That’s sure to make the 15 hour flight to Australia go by a little faster!

Cinematic obsession with vampires has deep roots

Posted by Shadaliza On February - 28 - 2009

An article about the recent vampire revival by Alex Israel on The Phoenix

Vampires have been enjoying special pop-culture status since before the publication of Bram Stoker’s “Dracula,” but in recent years vampire lore has undergone a surge in popularity that shows no signs of subsiding. Interest in vampires spiked in 1997 when a mediocre movie called “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” became the now-classic TV teen drama of the same name. “Buffy” gave teenagers identifiable characters and a complex mythology, but the series’ most important cultural contribution may have been David Boreanaz’s Angel, a vampire heartthrob so delicious that he was given his own TV series. Vampire frenzy recently reached fever pitch with Stephanie Meyer’s vampire romance novel “Twilight” and its three sequels, each more hotly anticipated than the last. Although the last novel, “Breaking Dawn,” was considered disappointing by many critics and fans, the buzz that surrounds this winter’s release of a “Twilight” movie hasn’t diminished in the slightest. It looks like Angel might have to fight the film’s resident bloodsucker Edward (Robert Pattinson) to retain his throne as supremely sexy vampire-candy.

If you ask me, however, both Edward and Angel should be bracing themselves for a fight with Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer), the enigmatic vampire at the heart of HBO’s newest original series, “True Blood.” Bill is part Southern gentleman (the show is set in the fictional town of Bon Temps, Louisiana, where the Civil War is still called The War of Northern Aggression), part out-of-control predator and all angsty sexuality. I dare you not to smile at the adorable way Bill (who was “turned” just after the war and thus still speaks like the characters in “Gone With the Wind”) asks a girl’s permission to “call” on her at her home, then turns around and viciously destroys her would-be murderers with the ferocity of a natural disaster. Bill is attractive because he is mysterious; his near-translucent skin and unfailing politeness hide a vicious nature with which he is constantly in conflict.

Attraction to mystery is brilliantly (and, this being HBO, steamily) showcased in Bill’s relationship with the show’s sassy Southern protagonist, waitress and mind reader Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin). Sookie’s cheery and slightly oblivious façade masks an unwanted ability to hear other people’s thoughts (once again, this being HBO, most people are thinking about sex). Paquin, in a charming and utterly believable performance, shows Sookie’s frustration with her so-called “gift” as she struggles not to listen to the inner dialogues of the other characters, including her boss Sam, (Sam Trammell) and her best friend Tara, a character who could have been just another angry-black-woman cliché were it not for the feisty, scene-stealing performance of Rutina Wesley.

When Sookie meets Bill, she is attracted to him both because his vampirism marks him as even more of an outsider than she is and because he is the one man she’s met whose thoughts she can’t read. Sookie’s attraction proves stronger than the warnings of her friends, and at the end of the pilot episode she steps in to save him from the hands of a vicious white-trash couple who had planned on draining him of his blood, vampire blood being a highly sought-after drug known on the show as “V.”

It is really the strength of the Bill-Sookie coupling that holds the show together, as several of the more peripheral plot elements occasionally threaten the storytelling. The most distracting subplot is one involving Sookie’s brother Jason (Ryan Kwanten), a womanizer with rock-hard abs and empty space in his skull. Another distraction is the show’s element of social commentary: vampires are presented as a group of outsiders whose struggles are meant to parallel those of the homosexual community, with evangelical preachers referring to their kind as “ungodly” and prejudiced Southerners wanting them segregated from the rest of the community. When these two subplots are pushed aside, however, the show returns to being a soapy, enthralling tale based around two intriguing characters and the love they share for each other. Ultimately, it is Sookie’s and Bill’s humanity (albeit, in his case, a conflicted humanity) that holds the show together.

Sookie and Bill: Hottest vampire couple

Posted by Shadaliza On February - 28 - 2009

OK! decided to put together some of their favorite vampire couples through the years.

Sookie and Bill are #1 on their list:

#1:
Who can deny the sexual heat between True Blood’s Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin) and Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer)? The brooding centuries-old Bill falls for the naive and virginal waitress, Sookie, and to say that sparks fly — well, take a look for yourself!

Dear fellow Australians and our American colleagues,

Anthony LaPaglia

As many of you know, Bush fires that exceed any natural disaster in Australian history have devastated the State of Victoria in Australia. Entire towns and communities have been wiped out. The estimated death toll is expected to exceed 300 and there is the inestimable loss of homes, businesses and jobs. The cost of relief for the victims and rebuilding all that was lost will most likely run at $500 Million. Of course, no price can be placed on the loss of family and loved ones and the suffering caused by the loss of your community.

That’s why I’m asking the vast Australian community residing in Los Angeles to join me on February 28 for an afternoon of “Footy and Meat pies.” Hollywood United Football Club, in conjunction with our various partners and sponsors present an afternoon where you can come with your families and watch your favorite Aussie celebs and fellow professionals play a short swift 7 aside tournament against a mix of American celebs and current and former pro soccer players. Participants will include Ben Lawson, Gilles Marini, Frank LeBoeuf, Richard Gough, Donal Logue, Christian Olde Wolbers, Cameron Daddo, Dominic Purcell, Anthony LaPaglia, Michael Johns, David Lyons, Damon Herriman, Stephen Moyer, Poppy Montgomery and many more. It will be fast, fun and furious and a great afternoon for the whole family, where the LA Aussie community can join forces with the multi cultural LA American community in a show of support and relief for this terrible tragedy in our home, Australia.

The event will be held at Palisades Charter High School, 15777 Bowdoin Street, Pacific Palisades. The games will kick off at 11 a.m. To help raise funds donations will be welcomed at the gate. All money generated on the day will go directly to the relief fund. Snacks, soft drinks and meat pies will be available for purchase and raffle tickets will be sold with various signed items including signed jerseys being offered up as prizes.

Please join me and a host of fellow Aussies in this event. In this time of tragedy and pain let’s do what we’ve always done. Throw in together and show we care.

Sincerely,
Anthony LaPaglia.

Carrie Preston talks True Blood at Macon Film Festival

Posted by Shadaliza On February - 26 - 2009

Carrie Preston (Arlene on True Blood) was present at the fourth annual Macon Film & Video Festival that took place in historic downtown Macon, GA from 18-21 February.
The filming of the second season of True Blood has kept her very busy, but she managed to find the time to fly out to Macon just for the day to present her production company, Daisy 3 Productions, latest endeavor, “Ready? OK!

Our special reporter, Billsbabe ABNegative drove out to Macon to meet Carrie:

“This past Saturday evening I found myself in Macon attending the wonderful and quite enjoyable fourth annual Macon Film Festival (MAGA).
This year was my first foray into the world of film festivals. All I can say is “why did it take me so long?” I had a marvelous time! The festival’s organizer and planner, Terrell Sandefur, did an amazing job. From acquiring great films to be viewed, to being a warm, friendly and gracious host not only to me, but to everyone there, he did Macon proud. Every review I have read about the weekend deemed it a huge success. Thank you Terrell!

The Cox Capitol Theatre is a grand looking old place. It has been lovingly restored to it’s former glory of the days when cowboys, war heroes and Tom & Jerry lit our imaginations and became the only place to be on a Saturday afternoon. It is a lovely place to spend a quiet evening having dinner and a movie.

It was here Saturday night that Macon’s own hometown girl, Carrie Preston, came to show her family and friends a movie that she, along with husband Michael Emerson, and good friend James Vasquez, under the name of Daisy 3 Productions, had made. Carrie and James, along with many family and close friends, arrived in the theatre just prior to the start of the movie. Everyone there was so excited and pleased to see her. After having the pleasure of meeting and talking with her, I can see why. She is so very gracious and sweet, without a single trace of pretentions or ego anywhere near her. She welcomed me warmly and after thanking me for coming, we had a wonderful conversation. She graciously answered questions and before long I felt as though I were talking with someone I had know for years.”

ABNegative: “You are married to Michael Emerson who plays Ben Linus on Lost. Were you already a fan of Lost before Michael got the role of Ben?”

Carrie: “Yes, I was. Michael, of course, is in Hawaii filming and couldn’t come. Actually I played the mother of Michael’s character on the show in flashbacks that dealt with his background story somewhat, sort of a strange twist.”

ABNegative: “I understand that your husband plays a “bad” character.”

Carrie: “yes, he is a bad guy”.

ABNegative: “What did you think when you first read the script for True Blood? Were you captured immediately or did it have to grow on you?”

Carrie: “Oh, I liked it immediately. I knew it was something I wanted to work on but I didn’t really see me as Arlene. I mean in the books she’s this buxom waitress with all this red hair who looks nothing like me. In the book she really wasn’t much of a character.”

ABNegative: “So, you’ve read the books?”

Carrie: “Yes, I’ve read the books”.

ABNegative: “I am such a fan, I just love True Blood. So, I know your lips are sealed as far as the new season goes, but can you tell me if there will be a little something between Arlene and Terry? After all, we all know Terry just loves those clavicles.”

Carrie: “Yeah, he does like the clavicles. And my red hair.”

ABNegative: “That looks like a sunset after a bomb went off.”

Carrie: (laughing) “Yeah, a sunset after a bomb went off . Well, I can’t really give away too much, but what I can say is that Arlene is not the type of woman who can be alone for very long. So if that helps any…..”

ABNegative: “No, Arlene doesn’t strike me as the type who’ll stay single”. And I think everyone really likes Terry. And I must say that I knew from your accent on the show that you were a southern girl. I didn’t realize you were from Macon, but I knew that accent was for real.”

Carrie: “As you can tell, I don’t really talk like that now, but I can call it up when I need to.”

ABNegative: “Well, there are spoiler threads out there, so I’ve read the episode titles of the first four, maybe five episodes.”

Carrie: “Really, I didn’t realize….”

ABNegative: “Yeah, from some of the titles we can sort of figure out what’s going on. I think “Scratch My Back” must be about Sookie being attacked by the Maened and having her back all messed up.”

Carrie: ” Yes, the Maened. That sounds like it. And without giving away anything, I can say that season 2 really strays far away from the second book, hardly anything like it. It’s just so far out there with more characters and going in different directions. Not much like the book at all.”

ABNegative: “Wonderful! I am glad to hear that. I don’t think the fans could bear to see Bill and Sookie not be together. At least, that’s how I feel, and there are lots of fans who feel the same way.”

And ABNegative, being a true Billsbabe, couldn’t resist to ask Carrie about Stephen Moyer….

ABNegative: “I just have to ask you this. Is Stephen Moyer really as wonderful as he seems?”

Carrie: (smiling and giving a nod) “Yes, yes, he really is. Just such a nice person.”

ABNegative: “I know you have a lot of people who want to talk with you and I won’t keep you. But I want to say that I loved your movie (“Ready? OK!”). It’s a great, heartwarming movie that leaves you feeling good. It’s something I can show my grandchildren and not have to worry about language or inappropriate content. It’s such a pleasure to find a movie like that. And that young man (Lurie Poston) was so adorable.”

Carrie: “Well, thank you so much. That’s what we wanted to do, make a family movie with a message that could appeal to all ages. Something very family oriented that you could watch with your family.”

ABNegative: Well Carrie, I can’t begin to tell you how much I appreciate your taking time to talk with me. The interview will be posted on the trueblood-online.com website and lots of fans can read it. It’s quite a popular site, with amazing stories and links. There are three websites (trueblood-online.com, stephenmoyer.net, stephenmoyer.yuku.com) I am representing and those ladies do an amazing job. One of the ladies lives in Italy. Isn’t that something?”

Carrie: “Yes, the site Terrell (Festival organizer Terrell Sandefur) told me about. I can’t wait to check it out. It sounds great. I had no idea the fans were so far reaching. I didn’t realize. How did you meet her?”

ABNegative: First, I had posted on the HBO fan site and made friends with quite of few of Stephen’s fans. In case you haven’t figured it out, he’s quite popular with the ladies. (Carrie laughs and nods). I had looked at trueblood-online.com quite often before actually establishing a friendship with her (Shadaliza). Then 2 other sites (stephenmoyer.net, stephenmoyer.yuku.com) were created just for us, so we could talk to each other, as well as others, without any, well, monitoring.

Carrie: Well, thank you for coming. And I appreciate the shirt!

ABNegative: Oh, it was a great pleasure for me. Have fun with the filming and I just cannot wait until it starts.

Carrie Preston with the Billsbabes t-shirt: "Oh my God, you've got to be kidding! He's gonna love it!"

“If you have the opportunity to see “Ready? OK!” then take my advice and see it. It is a warm, funny, and at times emotional, movie that sends a clear message that it’s alright to just be who you are. We are all different in our own special way. Each parent wants what is best for their child, but sometimes the best is what makes that child unique and different. And the bond of family love is a bond that holds up through the tough times as well as the easy times. It’s also a wonderful family movie that can be shown anytime and anyplace to any age group. I understand that it will not be released in theatres, but it can be ordered from their Ready? OK! website or through Amazon in mid March.

At the conclusion of the movie, Carrie and James Vasquez graciously took questions from the audience. To anyone there who was interested in film making, their input was invaluable. It was above my head, I must admit, but I enjoyed the exchange between James and Carrie with the audience.

I got my chance to meet and talk with Carrie after the Q & A, where I presented her with the Billsbabes shirt. She was quite surprised and delighted with the shirt. After I explained just what a Billsbabe was, she was doubly delighted!
As I stated earlier, she is just so warm and friendly. I can truthfully say that Carrie Preston is a special person, one that I was delighted to have the opportunity to meet and talk with. I am looking forward to the new season of True Blood as well as other future movies she will appear in.

Don’t forget. See the movie.”

Anna and Stephen: it is official!

Posted by Shadaliza On February - 24 - 2009

It’s official! Anna Paquin has a “True Blood” boyfriend!

True Blood stars Stephen Moyer and Anna Paquin say it’s true love. The pair—who play romantically linked 173-year-old vampire Bill Compton and telepathic waitress Sookie Stackhouse on the HBO series—have confirmed they are dating. “We are together,” Moyer told TV Guide Magazine exclusively on the True Blood set—right after finishing an intense scene where Bill and Sookie have a major lover’s quarrel.

Moyer and Paquin’s real-life romance first sparked at the True Blood audition, but the couple decided to wait to go public. “The reason it was dodged last year was very intentional on both our parts,” says Moyer. “It was very important to me that the cast and crew we were working with didn’t feel it was fickle, and didn’t feel it could possibly potentially encroach on their lives, you know, just like, ‘Oh the two stars are having a thing.’ We didn’t want to take anything away from the show. The show is the star, not the two people having a relationship.”

So where is this romance going? Well, it seems Moyer, 37, and Paquin, 26, are living together—at least on this side of the pond. Moyer, who is British, divides his time between Los Angeles and London where he has two young children from a previous relationship. “It’s just exciting and that was there from day one,” Moyer says. “We always take the piss out of each other and are silly with each other and it is great. We’re very, very happy. She’s the best.”

True Blood Season 2 Spoiler

Posted by Shadaliza On February - 24 - 2009

Lindsay in Houston: I cannot wait until this summer! Talk to me about True Blood!
Sookie’s power is not unique to her. She’ll meet a young Texan named Barry who reads minds, and they freak each other a little when they discover each other’s powers. Also, great news for us Eric fans: We’ll be catching up with him in 10th century Scandinavia, likely when he was first turned into a vampire. Holler!

Vikings. Yes, that was clear when the casting call for episode 2.05 was published. Sounds very exciting. Let’s hope Alan Ball isn’t fooling us on this one.
