Bill Compton is Reborn at the End of True Blood Season 5

Posted by Lynnpd On August - 26 - 201277 COMMENTS

HBO has just released to us a photo of Bill Compton at the end of the True Blood Season 5 finale. I don’t know what all the Bill fans think out there, but I have to admit that I’m still stunned by the last scene. What will happen to Bill Compton now that he is a God? Or, is he a God? We’ll have to wait until next season to find out. What do you think of this new Bill. Tell us by leaving a comment below.

That was a crazy cliffhanger. I think I prefer sweet Bill over scary, bloody Bill.

Yes, season 6 is confirmed. here’s my question; reborn as what exactly? I guess all will be uncovered eventually, but I abhor waiting 10 months for the next season. Seriously the time between season could be a lot shorter since it’s only 12 episodes.

Like I needed a reason to dislike Bill more. Maybe if they have someone suck the crazy out of him at the beginning of next season. I vote for Eric.

Stephen really sold conniving, religious fanatic Bill. This has to be wonderful for him to play. He did a fantastic job. However, I lament the loss of the Bill I fell in love with in Season 1. Not sure if he’ll ever return. This turn of events for Bill is all too fresh and raw for me to comment overly. Has he become a mad god? Or will he manifest as something else? You can find me in the corner licking my wounds.

I so agree – While I”m happy for Stephen Moyer, who IMHO is the best actor on the show, I can’t help but miss the Bill of Season 1. In fact, I can’t help but miss the “feel” of Season 1, the dark, gothic, romantic story of Bill and Sookie. This season feels so off, so “jump the shark”.

I’m still stunned and trying to make sense of it! Is Bill now Lilith, or is Lilith just wearing some Bill clothes? We never really knew what Lilith was, so now I guess we have to wait with Bill too. Guess he really was the chosen one after all? Wow. I need season 6 stat…and I need my Bill back!

    [Reply]

  14. Lori says:

wow I didnt see that coming lol SM does bad Bill good lol he was so devious and calulating with Salome and so harsh to Sookie, calling her an abomination and if she can’t save him I don’t think anyone can. It definately seems like this blood is from the first vampire as opposed to fae blood like many speculated, so maybe not a god but certainly powerful and ferocious like AB said. Will be interesting to see what he does next, try and take over the world like Lilith wanted?

It surprises me that when people mention the LONG list of people Bill betrayed, they leave out Lorena. He helped kill his own maker. The more I see of Bill they sorrier I feel for Lorena. She was right: they were the perfect couple. He was just as bad as she and enjoyed the awful way they lived together. Blaming all the evil they did on her doesn’t cut it – he was a willing participant. Bill helped do her in not because she was evil but because she got in the way of his ‘mission’ to be with Sookie.
And Lorena really loved him when she knew him better than Sookie, who in her mind made him into the true love she had always wanted.

    [Reply]

    Shadaliza Reply:

Huh? Lorena was giving him death by torture, it was completely justified that he held her up while Sookie killed her. Let’s stay realistic here.

I thought when he told Salome that Lilith told him she was the chosen one that maybe he had been faking this the whole time but when they showed that he switched the blood, I was like, this guy is just gone. I’m betting that Warlow will be the key to getting the old Bill back.

Sorry. I really love all of Alan Ball’s work. Up until this season and especially last night’s episode. Like a lot of you, I watch this show because of Sookie and Bill’s chemistry and some of the other great characters. But this season felt like a cartoon. I’ll probably tune into Season 6 out of habit, but I hope it’s a lot better than Season 5. If they’ve turned Bill into a monster, check, please!

  22. Lori via Facebook says:

It has to be a dream. They will never take True Blood that far because it would end all chances for Sookie and Bill to be together. Of course that would make me happy since I want her with Eric, but it wont be that easy.

I fell in love with Bill & Sookie and truly miss the old Bill. This season for me feels like AB ran out of steam, because the S5 did not feel like the TB that I love. I hope they return the old Bill to us. I will watch S6 hoping it will be greatly improved from S5.

I may be in the minority but I loved this season and the cliffhanger ending. It was a nice change of pace. The sappy, Sookie obsessed, Bill was getting old. However, he is a great character and I trust the writers to do right by him. I can’t wait for season 6!

Lilith could only be seen by those who tasted her blood, but reborn Bill could be seen by Sookie – so I have no idea what that makes him.
Do they really have a plan for Bill to continue like this? Is this their way of making it so Eric or somebody else can re-kill Bill and Sookie won’t hate them for it? Whichever, the show was permanently changed for me in permanently changing Bill into that thing up there. No amount of cute fairy babies or wolf pups can make up for this.

The finale was great to me until the final moments. Stephen Moyer’s acting was EXCEPTIONAL. Bill’s words about his torment brought me to tears….

Why transform him into whatever this thing is? Bill was a wonderfully, multi-layered character, with darkness and goodness in him…how much more tragic does he have to be made? As a Bill fan, I am suffering….

Sookie was so right when she said he was capable of love and generosity and how unique he was to all the other vampires…that is why his fans love him so…

The exceptional Stephen Moyer has brought Bill to life on screen….only his acting will bring me back to Season 6 in the hope that he will return to us…

    Selle Reply:

Yeah, I can see your point about Bill and whatnot. It’s sad. IMO, there’s not been a season to surpass Season 1.

    [Reply]

  27. Selle says:

Well, this was an interesting turn of events to see Bill change from a vampire to an evil monster. So I guess the question is “Is Bill still inside? If it’s true that real love never dies, where did his love for Sookie go and will seeing her stolen by Warlow awaken his humanity to come rescue her?”

If True Blood makes it past the 6th season, I think we’ll see that this was Bill’s last. And in a way, I can see why.

First, True Blood had become predictable in the sense that the main characters always survived whatever Big Bad each season brought. Their lives were on the line again and again and yet, they always lived. Hence, all the really nail-biting cliff-hangers had been used up unless they broke their own rules and killed a main character.

Lastly, Steve Moyer probably doesn’t want to go on and on playing Vampire Bill. So he does a good deed as the red man next season, then fades off into the sunset.

The only thing I don’t want to see is Bill constantly appearing to the vampires saying “Drink me. Drink all of me.”

No one will love Sookie as much as Bill did.

    Ellen Reply:

I think it was really high time that Eric’s good traits were shown. Most of this season he’s been under threat of death, not able to be himself. And of course last season he was that sad shell of himself…ew. But Eric finally got to be awesome again. To be badass, to show his loyalty to his family and Sookie, to fight for things that are bigger and more important than he is. I’m not a huge fan of Eric, but I’m happy his character gets to be cool again.
As for Bill being a demon, as a Bill fan, I say bring it. He could make an awesome demon.

The first time Eric could have killed Russell Bill threw Eric in the cement therefore Bill could have then staked Russell. The only reason Eric didnt kill Russell the second time was because of Bill. (clears throat) They both stuffed up. Neither of them are saints!

  29. rowan says:

Wow, that was horrendous. I watched last night just to see if the show could be saved at all, and the answer is NO. What a way to jump the shark, nuke the fridge or whatever you want to call it-killing Bill only to resurrect him a second later as a god(?) rising from a pile of goo, that we have no backstory explanation for(how that could even happen), seems to be the writer’s way of putting in something shocking, just for shock value, not because it advances the known storyline in any way whatsoever.

As for those of you feeling disappointed over the change in Bill’s character, the different personality you are now seeing, this is what it felt like for the folks who liked Eric’s character, only to have him altered by the writing staff as well.

I can only wonder what Charlaine Harris thinks of all this now, I’m sure she’d never smack talk the show in public, but her books do not exist in this tv show world anymore at all. These are NOT the same characters from the books, at all.

Finally, it’s pretty clear to me and to my dad, who actually watched all season, that Anna’s pregnancy happened very early on in filming this season. From not quite halfway through the season, she is not filmed below the waist at all, and if she is, she’s covering her belly in some way. See the scene with her and Jason when he’s looking under Gran’s bed-Anna sits on a stool behind Ryan and literally holds a pillow over her whole torso during the entire scene. Pillows and babydoll dresses, tv hasn’t changed a bit in how they handle a pregnant actress. Kinda sad, really.

In any case, I’m curious what the overall ratings are for this season compared to last year and the year before. I know the finale ratings were typical for this show, but overall, did the ratings dip this season? I searched on here for an answer, but couldn’t find one.

    [Reply]

    Shadaliza Reply:

How else could they have handled Anna’s pregnancy? I see no other way than covering it up.

    [Reply]

    rowan Reply:

Oh, I agree that they couldn’t write it into the show….I just thought in the 21st century we had a better way of handling that than the old hold-a-pillow trick and the standard babydoll dresses. I’ve seen some shows handle a pregnant star in much better ways….of course, with twins, you show right away.

    [Reply]

    cherie Reply:

Rowan, in regards to the ratings. According to Wikipedia, the average for both S3 & S4,(in terms of millions of viewers) were both listed at 4.97. Adding up the values of S5 ratings and dividing by the number of episodes, you get an average of 4.66. A slight dip, but for a show on it’s 5th season, that’s pretty good. It’s still killin’ it for HBO.

Wikipedia is using numbers from TV by the Numbers, which posts ratings for network and cable shows. It doesn’t take into account for repeat viewings or viewings at different times.

Why people are so sad about Bill. He has betrayed Sookie, his Queen, Eric, Salama.. sorry but that is a pattern of bad person..

    [Reply]

    Ellen Reply:

I think the Queen had it coming. She abused her power and broke some very important laws for money. Salome had it coming, too. Her devotion to her faith and her inability to predict Bill’s moments as well as he did hers, killed her. It was a chess game, and she lost. Bill in his twisted loyalty to Eric, wanted to help him to except Lilith, which is why he said “I’m doing this for you.”
Bill never betrayed Sookie, he lied to her a lot, and in his religious fever claimed she was an abomination, that’s not betrayal. It’s a shitty thing to do, but not betrayal.

Yes I do miss S1 Bill but I now know he was never coming back once his fairy tale romance, pun intended, with Sookie was over and he had to resume his real vampire life. I still have hope for them in the end.…
This is a time of great uncertainty for his character but I am happily along for the ride and hope for a happy resolution. Untill then – praise Billith!

REALLY??? dont be so sure. he is still as beautiful as he is terrifying!

    [Reply]

    Ellen Reply:

I said that because Bill is now something else, something more than that and has been since the fourth season. When he was King of Louisiana, Sookie was no longer his main concern. He was dedicated to building a world were vampires and humans could coexist. Pardon the obvious comparison, but it’s a bit like Angel from the Buffyverse. He was in this intense, complex relationship with the main heroin, but it ended, he was the star of his own spin-off and he became a hero in his own right.

  33. Selle says:

I really enjoyed the finale. I watched it three times and every time they got to the parts where Sam exploded that vampire by being inside her and then shifting back to himself and the part where Bill went wild and drank the blood, then exploded, then rose up out of her, I squealed with delight. What fun!

Next season is going to be a total hoot. I love how Jason is always talking to his parents now and he’s on another mission to save the world. And Sheriff Bellefleur has four babies to care for and how they say all those present will help out. I can’t wait to see Laffy with a baby and the diapers and all that jazz.

Yes, he is as shit as Eric is. He is a vampire, if you recall. And they do so. Check on Eric. you will see it.

  35. BadThings says:

It’s taken me a couple of days to let it all sink in. Although I am trying to stay positive and hope that our Bill that we know and love is really in that bloody body and will eventually prevail.

I hated the finale ending. I hated the way Bill has been turned into this religious freak. I find this transformation to be unrealistic. Our Bill who I felt embraced his humanity as best he could would never have gone this direction.

From talking to Bill fans on various sites, there are none that are happy with what the writers have done. Why did they have to make Bill a monster? I don’t understand.

My only hope is that there is a reason why they did this to Bill that is for the good. Maybe he needs to be this big bad in order to defeat Warlow for Sookie. Maybe our Bill will come back and be redeemed. I want to think this will happen. I am probably being very naive and looking through rose colored glasses, but it’s all I can hope.

Oh, and I *can* wait for Season 6. I’m in no hurry. This is the first time ever I have felt so disappointed in this show, and waiting does not suck.

    [Reply]

    Ellen Reply:

Bill’s transformation makes a lot of sense. As he said to Sookie, he thought himself to be bad and wrong ever since he was made vampire. Guilt has been his constant companion for 140 years. No over vampire in this series has had that. To finally make himself free of that, via the vampire bible, is what changed him so much.

    [Reply]

    Lori Reply:

Agreed, he’s never been happy in his own skin as it were. He must have found this bible liberating.

I am sooo disapointed Bill turned nasty.
But what I would like to know is, Is this turn of events anything like the books? Because ,although I haven’t read them all, it makes me think “the book is always better than the movie” sort of thing. And I was never totally comvinced he was really into the whole fanatic thing, more of a means to escape the Authority I thought.
