Alan Ball was recently interviewed by the Sydney Morning Herald where he tells them many things about his experiences with True Blood. This excerpt below in particular caught my eye as new information that hasn’t yet been reported on The Vault.
There are many reasons for our enduring fascination with the bloodsuckers, he says.
”Part of it is the whole immortality aspect. Part of it is it’s a fantasy way to live out the dark side. Vampires are certainly erotic – just the whole way they feed is very sexual. There is penetration of flesh, there is exchange of body fluids; there is certainly a surrender to a creature that is bigger and more powerful … It’s a safe way to explore some really dark impulses.”
Ball is not just the creator of True Blood; he also oversees most aspects of production and writes and directs the occasional episode. Yet he finds time to work on plenty of other projects.
”I’m developing a pilot based on a novel by Charlie Huston who’s kind of a noir writer. It’s a book called The Mystic Arts of Erasing All Signs of Death.” He’s writing the script and I’m overseeing it as producer.
”I’ve written a movie that is sort of in the vague beginnings of coming together in an independent financing kind of way. I’m working on some other screenplays, I’m producing a couple of pilots that are in development over at HBO, I’ve started a production company, I’m reading scripts.”
”The thing about movies is that they move at a glacial pace. So I’m writing screenplays in the hope that they get done within the next 10 years. For whatever reason, I’m in a sort of fertile place, imagination-wise, so I’m just churning it out and seeing where it’ll take me.”

When I went to the continuation page, I got a notice that from the Sydney Morning Herald that it could not be found. Thought I should mention this.
