Carrie Preston and Janina Gavankar in ‘Who’s Afraid of Vagina Wolf?’

The two True Blood ladies Carrie Preston and Janina Gavanker have both been cast for parts in an all female parody of “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?” that goes by the name “Who’s Afraid of Vagina Wolf?” There might be confusion about the title of the project because I’ve also seen it listed as “I Am Afraid of Virginia Wolf”, but I’ve decided to stick with the title as mentioned on the film’s website, which is much more powerful, if you ask me.

Directed by Anna Margarita Albelo (“Hooters,” “A Lez in Wonderland”) “Who’s Afraid of Vagina Wolf?” explores a Cuban-American, lesbian’s struggle to balance career, love, mother-daughter issues and her own internalized lesbophobia. In an indie film made by and about women of color, Anna Albelo unpacks what it means to be a lesbian Latina in the world fighting to make your story visible. The film enjoys a unique position in the marketplace of because it comes with a variety of built-in audiences: LGBT, Latina, and female moviegoers.
