i’m 16 years old and i love the show…
they to have lots of sex and nudity and violence…but its a decent show…if u are a teen u need to be mature 2 watch this show…..

In Holland where I come from they won’t object to either the violence or the sex.

There is a big difference of course between graphic sex like in TB and porn.

I think you have to keep in mind that many younger teens are just coming to terms with the idea of the physical act of sex, and many psychological studies have shown that they do not have the emotional maturity to understand why adults would want to preform what may be considered “kinky” sex. (Often, exposing a inexperienced young teen to porn will turn them off of sex, thinking it is perverted.)

What creates a healthy attitude towards sex has a lot more to do with the reaction and importance adults give it (dirty, secretive, etc.) rather than taking a hands-off approach that allows them view material they don’t have the maturity to properly process.

I think the differences between american (which I am) and european approaches are really interesting. I’m curious about True Blood showing in other countries – do they object to the violence and not the sex?

What is worse for a young person to see? Graphic violence or graphic sex? I have seen both when I was a teenager, the sex made me giggle, but there were violent scenes that I saw that I still remember today.
Sex is not something that should hidden away, I do not preach promiscuity, hell no, but young people would have a much healthier view on sex if it was something that could be discussed.

It’s interesting to see how different the violence vs. sex attitudes are and I believe SM touched on this in an interview (he has your view Shadalize but I will try to explain the other side). ~ in my fishbowl I hear teens see horror flix all the time that are far worse than TB (they sneak in or see them on DVD’s) so IMHO American teens are exposed to vast amounts of graphic violence but much less graphic sex. A scene such as ep. 1. Bad Vamp (Liam?) with Maudette! Hardcore! I could go on and on and write a dissertation, but this is the differences of our culture; for better or worse.

Believe I spent my son’s (and daughter’s for that matter) sheltering them from watching PG-13 shows.
The show is soooooooooooo popular, even my 12 year old nephew and nieces have seen them. I’m like, “whaaaaaaaat??!!”…does anyone password protect their HBO channels anymore?

Same here Shad, and I’m an American. I would have one qualm about showing most kids in my class Bill and Sookie’s sex scenes. Not the actual sex, realistic as it is, but the bloody bite right at orgasm.

And the main reason I’m hesitant about these noms is I don’t want a 14 or 15 year old to find TB online and see a scene like Longshadow popping like a balloon on Sookie or Lafayette being attacked by three ravenous vampires.

AP and SM deserve the awards (IMO, their romance makes the show great), but I just think it should be a People’s, not Teen, Choice Award type thing. Wrong age group.

Personally I would be worried about the violence that could be shocking for young people, but not the sex… but that must be the Dutch blood flowing through my veins.

I’m 27 years old, so therefore do not have any teenage children, but if I did I don’t think I would be comfortable with them watching TB based on the sexual content. I of course wish them the best though, and I actually hope they win. This great show and their great acting skills deserve recognition.

Wow. That’s amazing. I know the US has more conservative views about sex, and if it’s beautifully and tastefully done, I probably wouldn’t object too much for my teen daughter, but truthfully, SHE is just not ready to see RK and Randy Sue doing it “doggy-style” in the garbage. At 15, she hasn’t even had her first boyfriend yet.

It’s funny, because it’s the violence (Rene chasing Sookie screaming obsenities at her, Eric tearing Royce limb from limb) and language that I prefer not to expose her to – more than the sex.

I’m a grandmother raising her two teenage (15 and 17) granddaughters; they do know about True Blood, because I’m an AVID fan. I gave them a choice. Neither one of them like vampire genre and even knowing about the sex scenes ~ they just weren’t interested. But……….they think Stephan is gorgeous…go figure! To me True Blood is a love story. Stephan and Anna are accomplished actors and have been described as the new American Sweethearts, so maybe that drew them the honor of being nominated.

I think Sweden and….bacially all countries outside of US, LOL, is less uptight about sex. My mom would let me watch this show if I was around 15 or something. She would have no problem with it

I agree that True Blood isn’t really a “teen” show, but Stephen and Anna so deserve recognition for their wonderful acting in each of their respective parts, so I support these nominations. Best of luck to them both.

It’s definitely not a show for teens, but maybe the show has enough cache at this point as the “hot HBO show” to make the kids vote for it regardless? I have no idea how these awards work. Probably best for SM/AP not to win, though I wouldn’t be upset if they did. An award is an award. LOL
