Joe+Manganiello+Premiere+Open+Road+Films+End+4gYvaAG0q3ZlTrue Blood’s Joe Manganiello is finally top dog in True Blood Season 6 as he was crowned pack master at the end of season 5.

Replacing his father in the role is no easy task, because “they are psychos…these guys are kind of like everyday drunks,” said Manganiello, referring to his werewolves.

Watch the video below with the Wall Street Journal’s “Speakeasy”, where Joe talks about Season 6, his upcoming stage production of A Streetcar Named Desire at Yale and his new book, Evolution.

Carrie Preston at Critics’ Choice Television Awards

Posted by Lynnpd On June - 11 - 2013

True Blood’s “Arlene,” Carrie Preston and her hubby, Michael Emerson are seen in the photos below as they arrived at the Broadcast Television Journalists Association’s third annual Critics’ Choice Television Awards at The Beverly Hilton Hotel on June 10, 2013 in Beverly Hills, California.

Carrie was interviewed while on the red carpet by Elle Magazine but refused to spill any plot points about True Blood’s Season 6. “I really would love to tell you,” she teased. “It’s really hard not to talk about it.” But she did mention that character development, especially on True Blood, is what draws her to TV.

“You get to live with the characters for much longer than a film,” Preston explained. “A film is two hours and then that’s it—that’s all you know about these characters. Whereas if you have a TV show like True Blood, you get to live with the characters for six years, and you get to see them in all kinds of situations, dramas, and conflicts. That’s what keeps me coming back.”

Carrie had been nominated for an award as best guest performer in a drama series.

The other nominees in Carrie’s category were:

• Jim Beaver (Justified) – FX
• Jane Fonda (The Newsroom) – HBO
• Martha Plimpton (The Good Wife) – CBS
• Carrie Preston (The Good Wife) – CBS
• Diana Rigg (Game of Thrones) – HBO
• Jimmy Smits (Sons of Anarchy) – FX

We congratulate Carrie on her nomination and see that she had stiff competition in this category with such stellar performers in the running. As a result, she unfortunately, lost to the winner, Jane Fonda (The Newsroom) – HBO.

Q&A: Brian Buckner Reveals True Blood Season 6 Focus

Posted by Lynnpd On June - 11 - 2013

billpromos6-1

SPOILER ALERT!

Sarene Leeds of Rolling Stone Magazine interviewed the new True Blood showrunner, Brian Buckner about Season 6.  In the interview, Brian talks about the big changes this season will bring, not just for Bill Compton, i.e., Billith, but for all of the characters. Some of the things he mentions is (what we already have heard), the loss of a  major character, how the relationships between Sookie, Eric and Bill will change and what new relationships might materialize. He says Sookie will be more “mature” and while that they tried to keep the show “fresh and riveting,” it looks like there will be a major shift in focus. I’m excited to see what comes about and can’t wait for June 16.

So what can we expect from this new season?
Well, thematically – and I want to be fair to all seasons past – I feel like we do so much running and killing that we very seldom stop to speak to the importance of life. So we will have an episode this season that’s entitled “Life Matters.” We’re trying to remind people that the lives of these human beings and of the vampires here in this small town of Bon Temps, they mean something. So that if we lose somebody, we’re going to stop to grieve them, and try to tell the more human side of the supernatural stories we’re telling. That is sort of my mission statement.

Without giving away any spoilers, what secrets of the new season can you reveal?
I can tell you, because I believe it’s already out there, that you will see both Steve and Sarah Newlin, in a meaningful way. [Pauses] One of our principal characters will not make it all the way through the season. In television, because of the pace of what we do, who these actors are, they inform the characters that they’re playing. Because Anna [Paquin, who plays Sookie Stackhouse] is changing in her life – because she’s a mother now – we’re trying to make a more grown-up Sookie, a less naive Sookie. A Sookie who knows when she needs help and isn’t always saying, “I can do it myself.” And a darker Sookie, honestly. Someone who’s a little bit more eyes-open to the world and self-aware.

Now that we’re in the sixth season, how do you keep this story fresh and riveting?
Change. I’m not going to say what the changes are, but it’s a big deal. Everybody loves the show, but actors don’t want to play the same scenes anymore, and writers don’t want to write the same scenes anymore, and so literally shifting things up. And pivoting people around – on this show, other than when we have table reads and premiere parties, a lot of these actors never work together – so the way I look at it, if we can shift the paradigm, and some of the relationships within the show, there are all these sort of new avenues to go down. Jason has basically never played a scene with, like, Pam, right? So there’s all these pairings, and my job, and the job of the writers is to change the lanes that we’ve been driving down for six seasons. The answer is, because we have all these characters, I think it’s very easy to stay fresh – you just have to be mindful about doing so. So that’s the kind of thing that we have to be aware of and get back to a little bit of our soap opera roots and remember that romance matters in the midst of all the plot we do.

Along those lines, would you say that the Bill/Sookie/Eric love triangle still exists this season?
I think that it exists – the tension is there, but I would say that these characters have never been further apart, romantically. Bill and Sookie are still the center of the show. That pull is there, but you can’t always have people together. But the impasse is really interesting.

How has your role on the show changed now that you are the showrunner as opposed to just one of the executive producers/writers?
Before, for a long time, we pretty much maintained the same staff, the same core group, for the first five years. And nobody wanted to see Alan leave. And now I really know why I didn’t want to see Alan leave. We would all produce our own episodes, and work with each other on a larger story arc, but we were principally responsible for our own episodes. The big difference for me now is I have to be principally responsible for all of them. And I don’t think I ever fully appreciated the pressure Alan was under. So it’s that, and of course the responsibilities go beyond writing. It’s post – it’s having to maintain a dialogue with the actors so they know where we are, where their story lines are headed. And you can get very, very distracted. So the writing seems to come last [laughs], and that’s been a little bit hard, and I’ve actually never had more respect for the job Alan was doing than I have now, now that I am sort of sitting in that seat. Because it’s a big job.

Did you write any of this season’s episodes?
Yeah, I wrote the ninth episode, and I had a heavy hand throughout. But not too heavy. I don’t want to do a disservice to any of our fine writers. The group that I’ve had has really rallied.

How do you think you approach the show differently than Alan did?
[Long pause
] I’m learning to let writers have their own voices. I think Alan was extremely good about letting people do what they did. And I think sometimes my response to pressure is to control more. He’s a more seasoned showrunner. He knows when to trust, and I sometimes will just lock myself [laughs] in a room and try to take more on. I especially miss him in editing, because he was really good at backing off from what was written and seeing what’s there, and treating that as a rewrite. I miss him in that capacity. He was really, really strong that way.

After last season’s shocking finale, would you say Bill has entirely lost his humanity at this point, or is there still hope for him?
I think there always has to be hope for him. But his arc during the season, in that first episode, [spoiler alert!] he asks Jessica to make sure he doesn’t lose it. He will. He does. But he will find his way back, because Bill has to be Bill. But that fight that’s going on between the Bill part of Bill and the Lilith part of Bill, she will win for a little while.

Kristin Bauer Talks About the Evolution of Pam

Posted by Lynnpd On June - 8 - 2013

true-blood-pam-tv-fashion-5-hbo-325True Blood’s Pam, Kristin Bauer van Straten, left off at the end of True Blood Season 5 with a scene where she and her progeny, Tara pretty much launched their bi-sexual relationship. Below in a portion of an interview with Metro US, Kristin talks about this new relationship, that she is definitely Team Eric and provides some hints about what we can expect in True Blood Season 6.

What can you tell me about what’s going on with Pam this season, without revealing any spoilers?
That’s always the challenge isn’t it? We’ve been shooting such long hours all week that I’ve got to get caught up on the trailers so I know what they reveal. I think it’s safe to say there is a human-vampire conflict that’s escalated from what the Authority did last year. And that, of course, causes problems for Pam. So she’s trying to figure out her relationship with her new baby/lover, you know, Rutina (Wesley, who plays Tara). And she’s just reunited with her Maker, she wasn’t sure if he was alive. And then, on top of it, the humans are fighting back.

So it’s safe to say that things are pretty complicated?
Things are a little intense.

When the show first started, did you know that Pam was going to become such a big part of the show?
I definitely did not. Yeah, that was a really lovely surprise because, when I auditioned, they said that it was a guest starring role, possibly recurring. And first season, once Alex (Skarsgård) and I started they kept calling us back. But Season 2, there wasn’t as much Pam. So all of a sudden when Season 3 came around and they started adding quite a bit more Pam, that was a lovely surprise because I love the role and I also love the people I’m working with. We have so much fun. They’re very, very fun people. The hours are long so it makes a huge difference.

Pam is actually one of my favorite characters on the show, and her character has really evolved. She was straight-up evil in the beginning, but now they’re revealing a lot more layers to the characters. Do you think she’s more good than bad?
I don’t know if it is a bad sign, or if I’m becoming sort of delusional, but I don’t know if she’s good or evil — but she’s definitely…correct. I feel like what she says, we’re all thinking. You know, she only kills bad people. I feel like she’s a little bit of the person we all wish we could be, but we wouldn’t be able to maintain jobs and friends. (laughs). And Pam is lucky enough to have stepped out of, on purpose, all of those concerns. And, you know, to be top of the food chain, she doesn’t have to worry about liking anybody or vice-versa, people liking her especially. I just think it’s really refreshing.

To steal a “Twilight” thing, are you Team Bill or Team Eric?
There’s just no way for me to separate myself completely from the character, I just have to be Team Eric.

I’m Team Eric too, but maybe I just think he’s cuter. But I do like Bill.
I like Bill too, and I certainly like how Pam makes fun of Bill.

Interview with True Blood’s Wiccan Lauren Bowles

Posted by Lynnpd On June - 8 - 2013

laurenbowles1Lauren Bowles, who plays the Merlotte’s waitress, Holly on True Blood was recently interview by Dame Magazine. Below are portions of her interview with the magazine that pertain to True Blood:

Holly, the waitress you play on True Blood, is a witch. Do you have any personal experience with Wicca?
I’ve never been a practicing Wiccan myself, but from all the research that I’ve done, I’ve learned that it’s really just a religion, a beautiful one that worships the sacred, divine goddess. Which I can very much relate to as a cliché yogi, herb-takin’ kind of a girl.

You have done a lot of TV work, from Seinfeld to CSI. Did you intuitively know that the opportunities were in television?
Certainly it’s what took me out here, and the old modality of television is going the way of the dodo bird. All these incredible directors are coming to cable and Netflix. Did you see Liberace? It’s fantastic! Ultimately artists want to be funded and then left alone and that’s almost impossible in big studio movies or big network television because you’ve just got so many cooks in the kitchen. With True Blood, I auditioned for Alan [Ball] for Season 3, and by the time I drove home I had gotten the part. That only could happen because it was cable or HBO. It’s much more the auteur’s medium.

Stephen Moyer EvidenceThe film, starring Stephen Moyer, will have a limited theatrical release in the USA on July 19th, but “Evidence” is now available for pre-order on Amazon.com. The DVD and BluRay will hit the shelves on August 20th.

This horror flick is not for the faint of heart!

Detectives Burquez (Radha Mitchell, Silent Hill) and Reese (Stephen Moyer, True Blood) are desperately hunting for answers as to why five people were brutally murdered at an abandoned gas station in the middle of the desert. The only evidence they have is captured video footage found on the victims’ cameras and cell phones. As the mystery unfolds, it becomes chillingly clear that the killer is taunting the investigators, and the only way to end this bloody reign of terror is to decipher the deadly puzzle before he kills again.

Kristin Bauer van Straten and Ritina Wesley, maker and progeny, attended the Velvet by Graham & Spencer Celebrates the Grand Opening of Flagship Store in Brentwood last night.  Both ladies look awesome in their fashionable attire.  Love that cape Rutina!
