Recently we posted that Cargo Films had picked up the rights to distribute Stephen Moyer and Anna Paquin’s new film, Free Ride internationally. Now, Phase 4 Films acquired all U.S. and Canadian rights to the first film from Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer’s new production company CASM.
This is writer-director Shana Betz’s feature directorial debut and the film stars Anna Paquin, Cam Gigandet, Drea De Matteo, Liana Liberato, Jeff Hephner, Brit Morgan and Ava Acres. Scripted by Betz, the film is produced by Susan Dynner, Cerise Hallam Larkin, Chris Swinney and Paquin, and executive produced by Mark Larkin and Stephen Moyer.
Phase 4 will release the film later this year in theaters and on demand. Set in the 1970s and based on her life story, Betz’s accomplished directorial debut is a provocative crime thriller: Paquin plays a single mother who moves to Florida with her daughters in search of a better life but gets pulled into the high-stakes drug-trade business.
Phase 4′s Barry Meyerowitz says:
“Shana Betz has written and directed a poignant and gripping film anchored by a powerful performance by Anna Paquin,” “We look forward to working with Shana, and the entire cast and producing team to bring this film to audiences.”
Anna Paquin is quoted as saying:
“It’s always very exciting to discover talented writers and directors at the beginning of their careers. Based on the life story of Shana Betz, our writer-director, Free Ride tells an emotionally intense story of survival, and the lengths a mother will go to, to take care of her children,” She further says: “This was a story we felt passionately needed to be told. We are thrilled that Phase 4 is as excited about the film as we are and look forward to working with them.”
Alexander Skarsgård attended the LA Times Indie Focus Screening of his new film, “What Masie Knew” at Laemmle NoHo 7 on May 16, 2013 in North Hollywood, California. Alex was taking some time off from filming True Blood’s season 6, which we believe is currently filming episode 9, and many True Blood fans attended. Below are some photos from the event:
Alexander Skarsgård’s film, “The East” premiered at the Sundance Film Festival last winter and its garnered lots of press, but we haven’t seen more than about 3 or 4 photos of Alex in the film. Below are a few more that we just found on Indiewire.com.
You’ll be able to check out the film for yourself when it opens in limited release on May 31st.
True Blood’s Adina Porter, is best known for her intense portrayal of Lettie Mae Thornton, the manipulative, sanctimonious, emotionally abusive mother of Tara (Rutina Wesley) on True Blood, but Porter is now also happily dedicated to her new role of supporting character, Kendra James on HBO’s “The Newsroom.”
In a recent interview, Adina spoke not just about her new role, but she also talked a bit about True Blood. Below are the two excerpts about True Blood from that interview.
When asked about watching herself on TV, Adina replied that with two kids, she rarely watches her television work and has trouble keeping track of which shows she’s on. “I have no time! I didn’t watch last season of True Blood. I didn’t watch my scene — I’m sorry!” She agrees that “work is hard, but being a mom is harder,” as Porter says. “If you get out in time to have dinner with your kids or put your kids to bed — as soon as you walk in the door and you drop your bags, you don’t even have time to take off your makeup. You’re on!”
Next up for Adina is a return to the supernatural backwaters of Bon Temps, where Porter will once again sink into the spiteful fury of True Blood’s Lettie Mae and exorcize the stress that her dual life as mom and working professional inevitably brings. “Last season,” she grins, “I was enjoying myself on Newsroom and I remember calling up my manager and going, ‘I feel like chewing up some scenery. Come on, let’s see if True Blood needs me!’
