Allan Hyde on ArtistOnDemandRadio

Posted by Lynnpd On February - 16 - 2010

Last night, True Blood’s Godric, Allan Hyde spoke to ArtistOnDemandRadio about his experiences in True Blood and about what he’s doing now. After listening to the interview, my impression is that he is someone I’d like to know. He seems very personable and should be a contender for stardom in Hollywood with his natural sweetness and charm.  However, he talks about being interested in other careers. Could there be a place in the culinary world out there for Allan? Personally, I think he should stay right where he is and keep acting, but whichever he chooses I’m sure he’ll excel at it.

Translation of interview with Alan Hyde from Ekko Magazine

Posted by Lynnpd On February - 12 - 2010

Here’s an interview with Allan Hyde from Ekko Magazine, a magazine published in Denmark. We learn from Allan about his experience in getting the part in True Blood and how he felt home sick while in LA, which was such a different experience for the 19 year old. We thank Allan-Hyde.net for allowing us to reproduce it here.  This interview is from May 2009 and below is the translation done by Louise Vølund Bjerrisgaard.

The 19 year old Danish actor, Allan Hyde, has a leading role in the American cult show True Blood. He’s hoping that it will lead to more international parts.

A visibly tired, but happy Allan Hyde enters the screen. He waves.

EKKO is skyping him from Hollywood, he’s just gotten home from shooting the vampire television show True Blood, a show by Alan Ball, who is behind major success American Beauty and the cult show Six Feet Under.

Alan Ball is fantastic. Very approachable, and very cool. He’s been on the set three or four times, and it really seems like he’s passionate about True Blood. He’s one of those people where you just can’t help but think; ‘Is it really little you, who’s such a genius?’ Because he’s just so down to earth,” Allan Hyde says.

In spite of being only 19, Allan is not inexperienced. Since his early teens he’s down voice overs for a true ocean of Danish versions of international animation and children movies.

For example,  it’s Allan’s voice comming out of Ron Weasley’s mouth, Harry Potters red-head friend, who always lands himself in trouble.

He has also participated in several theater plays, and in 2008 he played the part of the young sensitive punk boy, who falls in love with the most beautifull girl in his class, in Hella Joof’s tv show Album.

And last year he delivered a mind blowing performance in Christian Tafdrup’s short movie “En forelskelse”, where he playes the 16 year old Carsten, who falls in love whith his best friends dad.

Vampire with tattoos

But now Allan Hyde has gone to Hollywood, where he’s playing the part as the tattooed vampire Godric, one of the leads for second season of True Blood.

His days are more like nights. Because of the well known fact, that vampires only come out at night, and many scenes therefore have to be shot at night. Allan is the first actor on set.

My character has a whole bunch of tattoos, and it takes a hell of a time to get it all on,” he says

The HBO production True Blood, is a much bigger caliber show, than Allan Hyde is used to. And it has been quiet an experience to see how many people there is on such a production.

If I’m just standing around on set, there’ll be ten people with jackets and all sorts of things. Okay, they don’t want me to get cold, but then they begin shouting. “Hey, get Allans chair here,” and then you better sit down, cause you don’t wanna offend anybody.”

Language barriers

The first scene Allan had to shoot, he was very nervous, and his heart was pounding in his chest. But he’s over that now. When he’s in front of the camera, it’s not so different than being in Denmark.

All for one exception. The language. His character is Scandinavian, and because of that, Allan is not supposed to change his accent. But it is a factor he has to be aware of though.

I have to read through my lines at least twice, otherwise I’ll stumble over words,” Allan says.

Even though the accent is fine for the vampire show, it limits his possibilities for landing other roles in America. So now he has hired a dialect coach.

I’ve just decided today. Of course I’ll still be interested in Danish parts, but I really wanna try to make it internationally now. The episodes I’m in will be aired in july and august over here. I’ve gotten myself an agent, and I want to be ready for the auditions, that will show up afterwards.” the 19 year old actor says.

Posted by Lynnpd On December - 10 - 2009

The EyeCon event last month in Orlando, Florida was Allan Hyde’s first mass encounter with the True Blood fans. The 19 year old Danish actor who portrayed Godric in the second season and who will be back in the third season, tells The Vault how he experienced that weekend.

“EyeCon was indeed my first convention ever and also my first real feeling of how big the fan base is. I had of course experienced the occasional hold up on the street and random sweet comments but nothing this intense. It was mind-blowing. I really had fun but wow it wore me out. Slept like a baby all the way back to Denmark.”

Not having experienced anything like this before Allan really didn’t know what to expect of the convention. “My mind was all set on going back home to Denmark after a good 4 months out here”, says Allan. “So this was kind of just “a something I needed to do before I could do my family-thing”. It ended up being a great experience in itself. I got to live the “celebrity-life” for a weekend and then hide away after. It was fun. Don’t know whether I would want to live that permanently though…”

“The atmosphere was really cozy”, Allan continues about the weekend in the Florida hotel. “ I believe it was a smaller convention and the fact that it was only for True Blood made it more intimate. It was the same crowd you met every day and got a feeling of knowing people throughout the weekend.”

“People were so great”, he adds. “Some were thankful for what Godric brought to the show and nonchalant, others were shy and intimidated by me talking to them and others were so excited to see “Godric” that they shed a tear. It was unbelievably awesome!”

Did you enjoy answering the fans’ questions in the Q&A?
“The Q&A was fun. I finally got to tell my story from my POV to some people who wanted to hear about it. Of course my family and friends really want to know about it but they don’t know how big True Blood is and so forth – this was fun talking to people on the same page as me. I must admit I was a little nervous to begin with as I’m sure the audience could feel. But as time went by I loosened up and got comfortable. I might have been over sharing at points – but whatever… ;)”

At the autograph signing session the fans didn’t bring him anything weird so sign. “Not like Nelsan [Ellis] who got his face tattooed onto this guy’s calf. ;)”.

wolfshirt2

Allan posted a photo on his twitter account where he is wearing a wolf shirt he received from a fan. He plays a vampire… so where does this fascination for wolves come from?

“I received 3 wolf shirts, and they have been all over the internet after that”, Allan explains. “It’s become a much bigger deal than meant for. It was merely an inside joke between a friend and I. We were at a flea-market but didn’t really need anything so we decided to look for this really specific item of clothing – the wolf shirt – as an excuse to be there. We never found it but made it into an obsession of ours to find one. I twittered about it not knowing anyone would pay special attention to it and suddenly at the EyeCon I got bombarded with wolf shirts. It’s awesome – but I really had a hard time fitting them into my luggage on my way back. Glad I did though – they are a rarity in Denmark.”

One last question for you, Allan. The fans were exhausted after this weekend, how about you?
“I was a zombie!”

Breakfast with Allan Hyde at EyeCon True Blood

Posted by Shadaliza On November - 27 - 2009

On November 15, Allan Hyde who portrays Godric on True Blood had breakfast with 5 Billsbabes, Michael (aka SterlingSilverCharm) co-founder of the Billsbabes and the StephenMoyerWebring  was one of them. Following her story about the event.

Allan Hyde’s mother asked him if he knew he was being auctioned away on eBay. LOL ! The funnier part of this story is “WHO” he was going to …… His mother probably never dreamed it would be a group of women equal to or older than her age – women that would treat her beautiful son like their own. He treated everyone with dignity, respect and sweetness. While we all spent time with Allan over the weekend, the breakfast was a DELIGHT!

allenhydebreakfast

When we sat down for breakfast I told Allan that I finally had my first night of sleep (4-5 hours) in the past 3 days. I was exhausted and it showed. I told him that the mattress in the hotel was so awful, that on that second night I was there, I had to go out to the store and buy one to bring in so that I could get a decent night’s sleep. I know, it’s a bit over-the-top and I think I got the same reaction from him that I’m sure some of you have on your face reading this …LOL! But I could not spend another night on that mattress. I would have rather been on a rack of nails.

When I met Allan on Friday night, the first words out of my mouth were “I’m sorry if I disappoint you and you were hoping for a 20 something year old with blonde hair, but you are stuck with me for breakfast”. He was very sweet and seemed generally excited to see that he would be having breakfast with some of Stephen Moyer’s Original Billsbabes and its Founder.

allanhydeThis young man was quite impressive for his scant 19 years. (He turns 20 next month) He must be an old soul. He was very mature, sweet, unassuming, savvy and smart. His onscreen level of maturity has surpassed the awkward; angst filled teenage boy type that one finds these days on TV in some of these teenage shows on the CW, FOX or Nickelodeon. I would prefer to see him in more adult roles. He can pull it off. When I watch him, I see James Dean, albeit a young James Dean. I think with proper directorial guidance he will be a powerhouse. What most impressed me about him was that he knows in which direction he wants his career path to take. He will be mature in his decisions and without haste. He has a plan and I hope that the people that surround him will help him achieve it. I have much faith and belief in him and his ability.

We had very many candid personal conversations with this brilliant young man – that of which I will not share, but most were pleasant stories about his role as Godric in Season 2 and his reoccurrence in Season 3. (Personal note: I do hope that we are not limited to just one or two episode(s) with Allan for S3).

All anyone has to do is watch this young phenom in action in (what I call the pinnacle of Season 2 which could have easily been the Season Ender) Episode 9, I Will Rise Up. This was HIS episode – he OWNED it. Actually, I felt that he owned Episode 8, Time bomb, as well. I could not take my eyes off of him. The brilliant writing and Allan’s commanding performance in Episode 9 left us wanting more, more Godric – more Allan.

allanhydecoffin

He took direction and executed beautifully. I can see where this young man is unafraid of anything a director would throw his way. I bet he is a dream to work with – no fear – a director’s dream. This is evidenced by his past independent work. I believe the Godric character will end up as one of True Blood’s cult figures by the time they get to a Series Finale. It was THAT good. He was THAT good. I thank him for one of the most riveting scenes (the Rooftop Scene) on TV to date. His performance was stellar and award winning as was Anders Skarsgård’s performance.

I do hope that HBO will put this uber-talented young man in for consideration this award season – he deserves it and I think he will win. I made a bet with him that I will see him at the GG’s this coming January, statuette in hand.

allanhydesigningallanhydesignin

We asked Allan to sign a few shirts and items for our Billsbabes “Raffles for Charities “, these items will be listed on Trueblood-Online.com – The Vault in the next few days /weeks. We also made a few shirts for his character, Godric (a fan favorite) and placed them in the Billsbabes Shoppe (www.cafepress.com/billsbabe) where you can purchase them and show support, not only for Allan, but for the Brentwood Theatre, in which Stephen Moyer is a patron.

It was an absolute pleasure to meet this young man and I wish him nothing but health , happiness and luck in all his endeavors and cannot wait to see him in other films and of course , True Blood when they start back up in June 2010.

The Vault’s co-admin Lynnpd made a few new wallpapers for Allan/Godric Fans. They are 1280×800, click them to enlarge and right click to set them as your desktop wallpaper.
