With Deborah Ann Woll’s popularity as Jessica on True Blood, and with her current filming of the anticipated horror flick, Mother’s Day it seems that she is on the minds of the casting people. In a new article out today, she is being suggested as a possible for the new Mary Jane to play opposite Peter Parker as Spiderman in the new version scheduled. Also mentioned as a possible for the part is Evan Rachel Wood who plays Queen Sophie Ann on True Blood. We still don’t know who is to play Spidey or who is to direct, but we think Deborah would be great in the part of Mary Jane.

Assuming that Mary Jane does have a role to play in the new series, these are the five actresses that MTV’s Secret Identity thinks could assume the mantle from Kirsten Dunst.

AMANDA SEYFRIED: The “Big Love” actress is already well on her way towards a promising Hollywood career thanks to roles in the thrillers “Jennifer’s Body” and “Chloe,” but she could use a blockbuster the size of “Spider-Man” to truly cement her status in Tinsel Town. With her hair dyed red, Seyfried’s natural charm and beauty would do wonders towards bringing Mary Jane back into theaters.

DEBORAH ANN WOLL: Although her “True Blood” role as the rebellious teenage vampire Jessica was initially grating, Woll’s portrayal of a young woman out of her element ultimately proved sympathetic due to her romance with the socially awkward Hoyt. It’s an arc that’s familiar to popular Mary Jane, who eventually falls for the nerdy Peter, so there’s no question that Woll could pull it off.

EVAN RACHEL WOOD: Assuming she’s still playing the role in the upcoming “Spider-Man” musical, there’s really no reason not to turn towards Wood, as she’ll already have had plenty of practice playing Peter’s true love. As long as she doesn’t spend all of her time singing in the new series, I think this would be a great pick.

LEIGHTON MEESTER: As Blair Waldorf on “Gossip Girl,” Meester is used to playing women who almost always get their way and still have a soft spot despite a hard exterior. With that sensibility and her already stunning looks combined, Meester could be a wonderfully watchable MJ. Plus, at only 23 years old, she’s not too far out of Mary Jane’s required high-school age range.

NINA DOBREV: Although her film credits are few — she actually costarred alongside Seyfried in the aforementioned “Chloe” — Dobrev nonetheless has that girl-next-door charm that would win over the hearts and minds of high school geeks everywhere. By casting Dobrev as Mary Jane, the new “Spider-Man” filmmakers could very well hit the jackpot.

Queen Sophie-Anne Leclerq – series vs. books

Attention: Big Spoiler Warning

After reading so much about Evan Rachel Ward recently, I thought it would be interesting to dissect what we know about Queen of Louisiana, Sophie-Anne  Leclerq overall before we learn about how Alan Ball will treat her in the series, True Blood.

First off, we know little about how she will be portrayed in the series.

What we know so far about her in the SERIES

The casting call for True Blood described Queen Sophie-Anne as an almost five hundred year old vampire. She is charming, wily, ruthless and wise. With one foot in the old world and one in the new, she rules all vampires in the state of Louisiana, and engages with Kings and Queens from other states. Brilliant and far-sighted, she is a consummate diplomat, politician and adversary. Incredibly cultured, has known many of history’s most famous people personally — as well as had affairs with many of them — she is entertaining, funny, dangerous and delightful.

Wood revealed in a recent interview with The Daily News that “Sophie-Anne has a female human partner who will play a large part in the series, and that Sophie-Anne possesses one particularly interesting capability that may connect her to another main character”.She can communicate telepathically with other vampires,” Evan Rachel Wood teased. “That’s something that was in the books. I don’t know how much they’re really going to explore it on the show, but that might lead to a connection with Sookie.”

Wood told EOnline.com. “Her human partner is a girl, but I’m pretty sure she goes both ways. I think vampires are like that in general.” Wood promises that Queen Sophie-Anne’s love life will be unpredictable.

What we know about her in the BOOKS

evan-rachel-wood_lThe first time we see Sophie-Anne is not in the books, but a  short story ‘One Word Answer’, by Charlaine Harris, when Sophie-Anne comes to Sookie’s house to tell her that her cousin Hadley has died.  We then, “officially” meet her when Sookie describes Sophie-Anne in book 6 of the Sookie Stackhouse Mysteries, Definitely Dead, as beautiful and pale as milk, with reddish brown hair, large and tilted brown eyes. Sophie-Anne is also portrayed as an elegant woman, around five foot two, always groomed down to the last eyelash. “Makeup, dress, hair, stockings, jewelry-the whole nine yards”.

According to Wikepedia, Sophie-Anne is portrayed in the books as an 1100 year old vampire, (although some say 500-600 years old) , who died in her early teens. She is originally from northern France (Lotharingia) and was the daughter of the wealthiest man in town. Her name then was Judith. When she was about ten or twelve, a peddler came to her village carrying what Sophie-Anne now believes to be a form of influenza. Within two weeks of his visit the town was wiped out except for her and an older boy named Clovis. Though she’s forgotten why, the boy did not like her. He raped Sophie-Anne and took her to the next town, where he offered her for money and food. They were camped out in the woods when a very hungry vampire attacked Clovis, most likely because he was bigger, and then decided that Sophie-Anne would make a good companion. His name was Alain, and they traveled together for around three years. Alain kept promising Sophie-Anne that he would bring her over – she wanted the strength – but he would do the same thing Clovis had, selling her for money. One night they came to a village where the head-man knew what Alain really was – Alain had forgotten that he killed the man’s wife while passing through. The villagers bound him with silver and left him in a hut to keep him until the priest returned from a trip. They did not tie Sophie-Anne up for they knew that she was human and that Alain had abused her. The head-man’s family wanted to take her as a slave. She sneaked into the hut and told Alain that she would free him when he changed her. After some bargaining, he agreed. She dug a hole big enough for her body in the dirt floor. They planned that Alain would drain her and bury her under that pallet that he lay on, smoothing the dirt floor as best he could. On the third night, she would rise, break his chains, and they would flee in the darkness. But the priest returned before the three days were up. By the time Sophie-Anne dug herself out, Alain was dead. The hut the villagers stored Alain in was the priest’s, and he was the one who told Sophie-Anne what had happened. She told him that she was the angel of death and that she was passing him over for being so virtuous. After a few years, she discovered an orphan, like her, roaming in the woods, like her, being forced, like her. That orphan was Andre, and they’ve been together ever since. Andre becomes Sophie-Anne’s personal bodyguard, companion, and, at a time, lover. She has also made Sigebert and Wybert (Saxon warriors) vampire and they are also Sophie-Anne’s bodyguards. She has a special ability, a gift, in which she can talk to her “children” telepathically. She says she can keep her children with her, talking to and loving each other physically. This differs from normal “maker”/”child” relationships which start out as companions or lovers but do not last long (in vampire standards). Usually, the child will leave the maker, and must only come again when he/she is called upon by the maker.

When we meet up with her in the books, Sophie-Anne is the vampire queen of Louisiana. She is New Orleans’s most famous and visible vampire and she has been brave, strategic, and busy in her career as a vampire leader. Sophie Anne sends Bill Compton back to his hometown of Bon Temps to find and seduce, if necessary, Sookie Stackhouse because Sookie’s telepathic ability might be valuable.

In the sixth book, Definitely Dead, Sookie learns that Sophie-Anne turned Sookie’s cousin, Hadley, into a vampire and had a romantic relationship with her. Unfortunately, the queen had to end their relationship due to the queen’s business commitment to Peter Threadgill, vampire king of Arkansas. They had previously agreed to marry each other. In this same book her political marriage to Peter Threadgill ends (he is killed), thus making her queen of Arkansas. In the seventh book, All Together Dead, Hurricane Katrina damaged her New Orleans headquarters as well as her entertainment estate. Also in this novel, the queen is tried in the vampire summit for her husband’s death. Jennifer Cater, Peter’s second in command, brings a lawsuit against Sophie-Anne for murdering him, but the queen is found innocent. Unfortunately, a bomb explosion in the hotel where the summit was held left her severely injured and she eventually loses her legs. Sophie-Anne is killed in the take over by the Nevada king, Felipe de Castro in the eighth book of the series, From Dead to Worse.

Playing a Vampire is in Evan Rachel Wood’s blood!

Posted by Lynnpd On August - 29 - 2009

Evan Rachel Wood

Evan Rachel Wood

In the next episode of True Blood, we get to meet the Queen of Louisiana, Sophie-Anne Leclerq as played by Evan Rachel Wood.

Playing a vampire is in Evan Rachel Wood’s blood. Pun intended. The “Thirteen” actress’ father, Ira David Wood, once appeared as Dracula in a theater production, her brothers are huge fans of horror, and her mother used to read Anne Rice to her when she was a kid.“Vampires are both romantic and dangerous,” Wood told the Daily News of the undead’s appeal. “They could kill you or they could make you live forever. And it’s that anticipation of what’s going to happen that drives people crazy.”

Wood is an accomplished actress who in 1994, auditioned for the role of Claudia in “Interview with the Vampire“, but Kirsten Dunst got the part. She then moved to L.A. with her mom and brother, Ira, to pursue acting. She guest starred on “American Gothic” for a couple of episodes, and appeared in some movies including “Digging to China” and “Practical Magic” before landing her big break on the tv show “Once and Again” playing Jessie Sammler. The show lasted 3 seasons and was suddenly canceled in 2002. Since then, Wood has appeared in a number of movies, including “Little Secrets“, “Thirteen“, “The Missing“, and most recently, “The Upside of Anger” and “The Wrestler”. She is trained in dance and has a black belt in Tae Kwon Do. She loves to sing, swim, rollerblade and go horseback riding. Her favorite actress is Cate Blanchett and her favorite actors are Edward Norton and Ewan McGregor. In 2003, Vogue Magazine named her one of the “It Girls of Hollywood.”

On a conference call in which The Vault participated, Alan Ball said the following about Evan Rachel Wood playing Sophie-Anne:

“She is going to be playing, Sophie-Anne the vampire queen of Louisiana. The vampire political structure in the state is that each state has a king or queen they are where the buck stops in terms of vampire politics. She does exist in the books but she doesn’t show up until the fifth or sixth book. It turned out that it had made sense for her to show up in the second season. I had actually gotten a call from Evan’s manager last year, during season one, saying that said she loved the show and would like to do it sometime. I thought great, if we find a role where she fits we’ll definitely make that happen. Then we decided to have the queen appear in season 2 that was the first person that came to mind. In the book she is a young woman, or a young looking woman, she’s more than 400 years old. And Evan is really beautiful and pale and she looks like a vampire to me!”

Wood said, that when he finally called with a part, she didn’t even read the script before saying yes and she thinks she’s perfect for the role of a bloodsucking queen because she has a vampire complexion.

The former girlfriend of goth rocker Marilyn Manson, says she’s sure she’ll become a hit among the make-up team. She says: “Make-up is gonna love me because I’ve got the skin for it; they don’t have to put white make-up on me – to look like a vampire – because I never go in the sun.” The actress added: “I can’t wait to get fitted for the fangs. I’ll probably steal the fangs when I’m done.”

Wood expects that somewhere down the road, she’ll have to get naked for the role. “It’s happened to everyone on the show, so it will probably happen to me,” said Wood. “For me, it always depends on who it’s for and what the context is. I’d probably do it for Alan Ball.”

Queen Sophie-Anne, is decidedly open to trying new things. “She’s not necessarily a lesbian, and I don’t know if I am having sex with anyone yet,” she says, “but I certainly have a steamy scene with someone that I don’t think you’d really expect.” While vampires do have a history of being quite omnisexual, there has been quite a bit of hype surrounding Wood’s character, and based on her own comments as well as those of others involved with the show, it’s been reported that Sophie-Anne was going to be a lesbian. But with only two episodes left of season two, it doesn’t leave much development for Sophie-Anne, so we’ll have to wait and see. I’m glad that it’s already been determined that Sophie-Anne will return in Season 3.

Wood says, “I feel like I have 500 different sides of myself, so when I read something that’s kind of different and weird, I’m curious about it and I want to dive in,” she said. “I love the acting on the show. There are a lot of new faces involved, everybody does a great job. I love the writing – it’s funny, it’s sexy, it’s vampires, it’s me.” The best part about guest starring on True Blood are the sexy costars. “That’s another great thing about my job,” Wood says with a laugh, “I was surrounded by beautiful people constantly.”

She will make her first appearance on August 30 when a desperate Bill seeks Sophie-Anne’s advice. When asked about Wood’s participation on the show, creator Alan Ball was tight-lipped about her character’s significance, though, saying that she will be “more important to some than others.”

Mystery surrounds Evan Rachel Wood’s Queen Sophie-Anne

Posted by Shadaliza On August - 27 - 2009

Mark Malkin from EOnline! spoke with Evan Rachel Wood, the queen of Louisiana who will make her entrance in Sunday’s episode of True Blood.

s2-66According to Wood her character’s sexual preference is discutable.

“She’s not necessarily a lesbian,” Wood, 21, recently explained to me. “Her human partner is a girl, but I’m pretty sure she goes both ways [laughs]. I think vampires are like that in general.”

I’m not sure why I am talking to you because I don’t think you’re allowed to tell me anything, right?
[Laughs] I can tease! What do you want to know?

I want to know who you are going to have sex with. Are you more Eric or Bill, and what kind of drama is Queen Sophie-Ann starting?
I figured that those would be the questions! Who do I have sex with? Well, I don’t know if I am having sex with anyone yet, but I certainly have a steamy scene with someone that I don’t think you’d really expect. So it will be a little fun.

So no Eric or Bill? Because I think that is what everyone is assuming.
Um, I’m not saying anything. I can’t say either way.

How did you end up on the show?
I watched the first season and loved the show, so I got in touch with [series creator] Alan Ball and said, “Keep an eye out for anything that might pop up.” I thought it was a long shot, but then later on I got a call saying they needed a queen.

Did you know anything about the queen beforehand?
I didn’t. I said yes, even before I read the script. I didn’t really care.

This past Sunday’s episode was so crazy. I was just watching it and going, “What the f–k!”
That’s pretty much how I feel after every episode. [Laughs] Just wait until the last episodes! There’s a lot that is going to happen. It’s going to be insane. Those were the only scripts that I read, and I was just thinking to myself (a) how are they going to film this, (b) how are they going to get away with this, and (c) just what they hell is going on?

Did you have to get naked yet, because everyone on the show gets naked?
I can’t say I do just yet. But they are bringing me back next season, so it’s always a possibility. It’s kind of inevitable.

So are you Team Eric or Team Bill?
I would say, Team Alex—Eric! Whoops. [Laughs]

Have you seen the clip of Alex’s shower scene in Hundtricket?
I am not going to lie. Yes I have.

He is just stunning.
I have to agree with you. [Laughs] That’s another great thing about my job—all of my scenes are with Bill and Eric! I was surrounded by beautiful people constantly.

Now, I do want to ask you about the Spider-Man musical. What’s the latest?
I don’t know a lot, but as far as I know, it’s still on.

Any truth to reports that you told producers you were backing out so you could be free to do some movies?
No! I didn’t say that! It’s going to be great! Whatever happens, it’s going to be great!
