Joe Manganiello gets perks with stardom but wasn’t stalked

Posted by Lynnpd On September - 6 - 2010

Yes, Joe Manganiello has certainly gotten lots of attention since taking on the role of “True Blood’s” werewolf Alcide Hereveaux. He’s worked with wolves, been to a host of swanky parties, and met some of his heroes, but the actor’s biggest and best reward for becoming Pittsburgh’s newest breakout star will be cashed in later this fall.

I’m going to the Jets game at home in December,” he told AccessHollywood.com of securing passes to cheer on his hometown team – The Steelers – in the highly anticipated match-up. “I’m gonna get a tour of Heinz Field as well.”

For the returning local, a former high school football and basketball star, getting a private tour of The Steelers’ hallowed grounds, plus tickets, is meaningful.

I’ve made it now!” he said with a laugh.

While he may share a cable network with Jets quarterback, former USC star Mark Sanchez, Joe is hoping for a big defeat of the team currently being documented by HBO’s “Hard Knocks.”

Hopefully I’ll be watching Mark cry,” he joked, showing off his playful team spirit after Access suggested he could say hello to the raven-haired QB.

Joe may be riding high off a rip-roaring “True Blood” Season 3, which wraps up next weekend, one week later than many fans expected due to the Labor Day holiday, he’s found out that becoming a breakout star comes with a few drawbacks.

Joe admitted that he’s sometimes seen a paparazzi presence on his daily routine, but very clearly distanced himself from a recent report that he has a stalker.

I want to make it clear — all I said was I had my car checked for tracking devices,” he told Access of reports that surfaced online last week suggesting otherwise.

I didn’t say that I had one and I didn’t say that there was a stalker,” he continued. “Paparazzi kept popping up everywhere I was going for a while and it was starting to make me wonder how the hell these guys do what they do. I was at my car dealership and [they] said, ‘Hey, we can have it checked for tracking devices.’ I said, ‘Yeah, sure, go ahead.’ So that got blown up. It’s funny how sometimes you say, ‘I had my car checked for tracking devices,’ and all of a sudden I have a stalker and the police are involved… That’s not what I said.”

Joe Manganiello is loving the attention in Boston

Posted by Lynnpd On September - 6 - 2010

It’s pretty obvious to us that Joe Manganiello is having a great time with all the attention he has received since he took the role of Alcide Herveaux on True Blood. With his good looks and unbelievable body, the fans went nuts over him and it’s good to know that he is now a series “regular” and will be returning next season.

We’re happy for Joe and glad he’s looking so unbelievably happy. He deserves it for all the work he has put in, and to know that he is also a real “True Blood fan” is an added bonus!  Below is a photo of Joe from the True Blood Bash in Boston yesterday that he and Rutina Wesley attended. And also following the photo is more about the event from boston.com.

I like Boston,’’ said “True Blood’’ cast member Rutina Wesley, who was a celebrity guest at RCN’s “True Blood’’ event in Boston for the second year in a row. “Boston’s not bad. And I’m a New Yorker, but Boston’s not bad.’’

The almost 300 fans who attended the party screamed for Wesley (who plays Sookie’s pal Tara Thornton on the show) as she danced onstage in front of the DJ.

They screamed even louder when season-three newcomer Joe Manganiello walked out to greet them (above). “I love the turnout. I mean, I was a huge fan of the show, so to see all the other people who are excited about it, I identify,’’ said Manganiello, who plays werewolf Alcide Herveaux.

When we interviewed Manganiello by phone last week before his arrival in Boston, he confessed his love of Kelly’s Roast Beef’s lobster rolls. Apparently, his Boston handlers read that in the Globe and surprised Manganiello by taking him for a Kelly’s run once he got to town.

Manganiello — who brought his model girlfriend Audra Marie to the party — said his autographed picture is now on the wall at Kelly’s and at the Kowloon in Saugus. “If we could find a Dunkin’ Donuts that would put my picture up on the wall, I’d be happy,’’ he said, adding that it didn’t matter which one, as long as it’s “anywhere where blueberry coffee is served.’’ Manganiello was raised in Pittsburgh, but his parents are from the Boston area.

Joe Manganiello’s muscles have served him well

Posted by Lisafemmeacadienne On September - 3 - 2010

Extra’s Lauren Sanchez interviewed Joe Manganiello; he talks about making ends meet before True Blood, and of course, the SOCK.

“I was shoveling sand and gravel off the back of a truck trying to make ends meet for a little while in there,” he said of his pre-stardom days. “Hauling cement bags and jackhammers… it got rough.”

“We all have to appear naked on the show,” said Manganiello. “You get three choices [on how to cover up], one’s a sock, a thong with a plastic back — and I was warned that when you run really fast the plastic will snap… The third [choice] is the man panty or the manty — which is so tight and constricting.”  Joe told Lauren he decided to go with the sock.

Joe Manganiello would use a fork to eat steak, at least on the first date

Posted by Lisafemmeacadienne On September - 3 - 2010

Walter Scott of PARADE asks Joe Manganiello about his athleticism and his similarities to his character, Alcide.

Did you get cast as the werewolf Alcide Herveaux thanks to your muscles?

Joe: In the books he’s physically imposing, but if he had a beer gut and a comb-over and was missing his teeth, that’s how I’d look in the part.

You were an athletic kid. How did your dad react when you wanted to become an actor?

Joe: Any father who has a 6-foot-5 kid who can run, throw, catch, dunk, and slide–I mean, you’re gonna be upset. But recently he wrote me a poem about a werewolf and framed it and brought it to me. I started crying. It was just this magical moment.

Are there any similarities between you and Alcide?

Joe: Yeah, there’s an episode where I cook a steak and walk off to eat it without a fork. That’s me–but not on a date. At least not on a first date.

Joe Manganiello is getting a lot of attention since he became the werewolf, Alcide Herveaux on True Blood. However, the fame can be sometimes scary, too. Now he’s extra cautious when he goes out anywhere because fans have started to follow him around.

He told USmagazine.com, “I’ve had to have my car checked for a tracking device – for a stalker. It’s been a little interesting. You have to take the good with the bad.

But, there’s also good that comes from fame, and Joe seems to have a healthy attitude by taking in the good, as well as the bad: “It has definitely been an overwhelming amount of support. I just can’t believe how much people love my character on the show. And that has just helped me feel great!

He’s currently sitting pretty as one of True Blood‘s hottest werewolves, but he could have another career if his gig on HBO doesn’t pan out: professional eater!

To prep for his role as bulked-up Alcide, Manganiello says he was afforded one “cheat day” to eat whatever he wanted — away from the watchful eyes of his trainer.

I wolfed down, literally, these two big waffles with butter and syrup and half a fried chicken, got some collared greens, some macaroni and cheese…I downed it in probably under four minutes and anybody that was watching was probably horrified,” the actor says.

In the video below he talks about his part of Alcide, his “cheat meal” and how True Blood is his favorite show.

Also, Joe told E!Online that he is going on vacation, during the True Blood hiatus. He said, “I’m going to eat myself through Greece and Italy. I’ve never been to Europe so I’m going to eat and have fun.” Have no fear, Alcide fans, Joe plans on keeping up with his workouts to maintain that lovely physique.
