Joe Manganiello’s main squeeze on True Blood this season is Kelly Overton, who plays Rikki, a fellow werewolf and member of the pack. Recently there was a very steamy scene between Joe and Kelly sosot’s no surprise to us that she has made Celebuzz’s list of 101 Hot Bodies. Kelly placed 50 among the 101 most beautiful Hollywood ladies.
A lifelong star athlete, Kelly Overton turned heads this summer when she joined the season 5 cast of HBO’s smash hit True Blood. “It’s been a dream of mine to marry both those talents and both my loves, being physical and acting,” the actress recently told TVFanatic.com. Overton – who was undefeated in the hurdles during her Western Massachusetts high school career – says both her track and soccer playing skills have come in handy when filming intense action scenes for the show. “She’s tough, she’s resourceful, she’s pretty much the opposite of the damsel in distress,” Overton says of her werewolf character, Rikki. “She will do whatever needs to be done to protect the pack.”

RUNWAY: So you started off in theatre. What was it like to make the leap from the stage to the silver screen?
KELLY OVERTON: Yes, I started off in theatre. I went to the Academy of Dramatic Arts in NYC. I starred on Broadway in the Graduate with Kathleen Turner and Jason Biggs. And then coming out West, you know, it’s a very different medium. I had to learn the art of subtlety. Your emotional life is the same if you’re on stage or on the silver screen, as you say. But the difference is in how you express it, how you portray it. So, I had to learn the art of trusting that the camera and viewers, who are going to be so much closer to me than if they were watching me in a play, that they can see everything I’m feeling, even in just my eyes. I had to learn to trust that and connect with the audience in a new way.
Even though there’s been lots of hype about the Vampire Authority and what will be Tara’s fate in Season 5, as is True Blood’s tradition, there are also other storylines for the fans to follow. This year, the werewolf culture will offer an even wider spectrum of character development when Kelly Overton joins the cast this season as Rikki. Rikki is a sexy, inquisitive werewolf demanding answers after her pack leader’s suspicious disappearance.
Overton talked with Poptimal about shifting into “pack mentality” on True Blood. Below is part of the interview with Kelly.
“I’ve seen every episode from the first season on, I’m a huge fan of the show. I’ve always been obsessed with the genre. Love vampires, especially,” Overton began. “I was a huge fan of Anne Rice growing up and of all the cult classic vampire movies, like Fright Night, The Lost Boys. I was just obsessed. So when [True Blood] came out, it was the highlight of my week. So I was very familiar with everything happening in Bon Temps,” she laughed.
When asked about Rikki’s personal contribution to the season’s narrative, particularly the notion of sparking a romance with the newly single Alcide Herveaux (Joe Manganiello), Overton was coyly cryptic.
“Well, I’m a werewolf, and he’s a werewolf, so our paths definitely cross,” she teased. “There are a lot of different colors and levels to Alcide and Rikki’s relationship, but I can’t really say more. You’ll have to watch and find out.”
Overton did offer specific commentary on the notion of Rikki filling the void left by Alcide’s spitfire fiancée Debbie (Brit Morgan), whom Sookie (Anna Paquin) shot dead at the end of Season Four.
“You know, there’s definitely no replacing Debbie Pelt,” Overton chuckled, before discussing Rikki’s own defining traits. “She cares deeply about the pack and is willing to risk anything for the good of it.”
For former star athlete Overton, the physical strength and agility required to play a werewolf came naturally, but the psychological implications of such a role provided an educational experience for the seasoned actress.
“I’ve never played a supernatural character before, so that’s been really, really amazing,” Overton said, crediting her diverse background in film, television and theater, including a starring role on Broadway in The Graduate, as a culminating creative preparation for True Blood. “I’ve always been a very physical person; I played sports my whole life and have always been naturally athletically inclined, and it’s always been a passion of mine to utilize that strength of mine in my work,” she affirmed.
“Werewolves are kind of explored more this season, and we see them in action in ways we’ve never seen before,” Overton continued. “The whole aspect of the pack mentality is really different. The way people are, and the way wolves themselves are a family in that way. But also, we’re actual animals and I think that makes a huge difference … I’m learning more and more about what it means to be a werewolf every episode, and this is a character that I hope to explore more in the future.”
The community-driven nature of the werewolves within the show also mirrored the close-knit environment among the cast, about whom Overton couldn’t rave enough.
“The talent across the board is just phenomenal. And it’s such an honor to be working with these actors, and Alan Ball and the producers and writers,” Overton proudly gushed. “There’s such a true collaboration that’s happening. That’s what’s so unique and so special, and what makes the show so amazing is having that kind of creative atmosphere. Everybody [in the cast] loves the show, and has welcomed new members with open arms. Being part of a pack on the show, there’s definitely that sense of family.”

Joe Manganiello is the next True Blood star to make an appearance on Extra TV at The Grove in Los Angeles. His segment will be taped this morning Friday June 8 at 10 am.
Yesterday it was Kelly Overton’s turn on Extra TV and the day before that Scott Foley. We’ll post their videos as soon as they are available.
This coming Sunday in Season 5′s premiere we’ll meet a new werewolf, Rikki, played by Kelly Overton. Kelly’s character is a member of the late Marcus’ wolf pack and she is on a mission to find his killer.
“She’s definitely not in the best of moods,” the actress just told me over the phone, describing Rikki as “fiercely loyal” and focused on one question: What happened to her Pack Master?
She tough, she’s resourceful, she’s pretty much the opposite of a damsel in distress,” Overton added. “She will do whatever needs to be done to protect the pack.”
What will this mean for Rikki’s interactions with Alcide, who is responsible for Marcus’ fate? Overton couldn’t say specifically, but did tease: “There are many different colors and levels to her relationship with Alcide.”
Overton has been a star athlete all her life (she was undefeated in the hurdles during her Western Massachusetts high school career) and says those track and soccer skills really came in handy on a show such as True Blood. Werewolves aren’t exactly stationary creatures, after all.
“It’s been a dream of mine to marry both those talents and both my loves, being physical and acting,” Overton said of filming action scenes, and then adding another love of hers that fits in perfectly:
“I grew up a huge fan of vampires in general. I read all of Anne Rice’s books. Lost Boys is a favorite movie of mine. So I’ve been hooked since the first episode [of True Blood].”
Considering the blood, gore and nudity of the show, can she give away any particularly crazy or memorable scene in which she’s been involved? Any kind of teaser for what’s to come?
“Every scene I’ve done,” she laughed. “You’ll see werewolves like you’ve never seen werewolves this season.”

Kelly Overton has been cast as the newest and very sexy new werewolf named Rikki. Recently, Kelly spoke to “The Clicker,” about her new role and below we have a portion of that interview. She starts out by discussing a possible new romance between her character and Joe Manganiello’s, Alcide.
“All I can say is that everybody knows Alcide (Joe Manganello) is holding a candle for Sookie (Anna Paquin),” Kelly Overton, who plays Rikki on the show this summer, told TODAY.com.
“And who is to say that he is even (Rikki’s) type? She definitely lives life a little more on the edge than he does. It is definitely going to take a unique sort of person/being to catch Rikki’s eye and actually keep her interest.”
Overton — a former high-school track star and mother of a 1-year-old girl — describes her character as “tough and resourceful.”
“Rikki is pretty much the polar opposite of a damsel in distress,” she told TODAY.com. “You don’t want to be on her bad side, that is for sure!”
“When we meet Rikki, she is not in the best of moods. Her pack master has gone missing,” Overton explained. “That is a pretty big deal in her world. She is pretty determined. She won’t let anyone or anything get in the way of finding out what happened to him.”
Overton also noted that in the upcoming season, viewers will finally meet the Authority, the vampire council that rules over all bloodsuckers.
“We really kind of see the politics and the power struggle between the Authority’s agenda — which is to drink Tru Blood and mainstream this society with humans. You know, coexist. We see that and the fundamentalist vampires, who are subscribing to beliefs that they are superior to humans. Humans are merely a food source,” she added.
“So this season is really different in that there is a lot of politically charged drama, which is something that always existed within the show, but until now they never really fully explored it and all the impact it will have on the characters. … There is a lot of characters asking what side are they on.”
