Kristin Bauer Attends Doggie Bow Wow for Amanda Foundation

Posted by Lynnpd On October - 29 - 2012

Teri Austin with Kristin Bauer van Straten

The Amanda Foundation is one of the Vault’s charities this year and we have been happy to raise funds that help the cats and dogs at their shelter.

Teri Austin, President of the Amanda Foundation invited me and a guest to attend the Amanda Foundation Doggie Bow Wow in Beverly Hills Event which took place last Thursday, October 25, 2012. The event is an annual occasion held around Halloween where supporters of the Foundation parade their dogs in Halloween costumes and all for charity.

Congrats go to to Teri, who was honored by Los Angeles Magazine this month as 1 of 50 influential women making a difference in L.A. Teri was included for her huge progress towards saving cats and dogs in L.A., especially through the AF Spaymobile program. Check out pg 164 of this month’s issue! You can also see our article about the Amanda Foundation and what wonderful work she and her assistant Tracy are doing for the dogs and cats of Los Angeles.

The Bow Wow Wow event took place on the famous “Rodeo Drive” in Beverly Hills, a place where I had never been before, but had always longed to see. As Teri’s VIP guests, my friend and I had champagne at the opening reception in the Tiffany’s store with the owners and their dogs. Then, we registered and watched the “red carpet” which was actually green grass for the doggies, as they were the stars at the event. During that time True Blood’s Kristin Bauer van Straten and Abri van Straten arrived and after a few hellos, Kristin quickly went onto the green carpet to take photos with the dogs in costume.

As many of you know, Kristin is a big supporter of Amanda and is a close friend of Teri. Even though she is very busy with her own animal rights activities and is currently making her very first documentary, “Out For Africa,” about the poaching of Elephants and Rhinos for their tusks, she took the time to continue her support of the local dogs and cats in the area by coming out in support.

Once the carpet photos were taken, the party began. Filing through 2 Rodeo Drive, the guests were treated to hors d’oeuvres and drinks while checking out all the items in the silent auction. Then, the main event of the evening took place, the costume contest. Teri announced each of the doggies in Halloween costumes as they were paraded on the stage to show off their wonderful outfits and to be considered for best in the bow wow show. There was an angel, a witch, dogs that were pink and green, and even a dog dressed as a hot dog, just to name a few.  By far though, the best costume of the event was the doggie dressed as “poison ivy.” It was the most creative costume there and won with a huge amount of applause.

Thanks to Teri and Tracy for the invitation. I truly enjoyed myself and am always glad to see the lovely Kristin Bauer who is probably one of the kindest people I know.

Kristin Bauer Speaks Out Against Overly Skinny Minnie Mouse

Posted by Lynnpd On October - 22 - 2012

All True Blood fans, know that Kristin Bauer van Straten always speaks out for animal rights and for those that need support. Now she is adding her voice to those who are speaking out in protest about Barney’s New York Holiday campaign , which features an overly skinny Minnie Mouse.

She is joined by actress Virginia Madsen, and documentary filmmaker and Disney heir Abigail Disney who are speaking out against the Barneys New York’s holiday campaign

In addition to celebrities’ tweeted protests, more than 130,000 people have signed a Change.org petition as of Monday (Oct. 22) afternoon asking Barney’s to “Leave Minnie Mouse Alone” and ditch the campaign

“Barneys plans to dramatically alter Minnie Mouse’s body – making her a 5’11 size 0 in order to ‘look good’ in a Lanvin dress in the Barneys NYC window this holiday season,” Ragen Chastain, a blogger and dance teacher who spearheaded the petition, writes.

“There is nothing wrong with tall thin women. There is something wrong with changing a beloved children’s character’s body so that it looks good in a dress that almost nobody looks good in — adding to the tremendous pressure on young girls and women to attain Photoshop perfection.”

She continues,

“Girls have enough pressure to be thin, now the beloved Disney mouse of their childhood has to add to the message that the only good body is a tall, size 0 body? Enough already.”

No word as to whether Barneys plans to alter the campaign, which is scheduled to launch Nov. 14.

In November, Californians will vote on Prop 37 requiring that GE foods be labeled. Just as labels list fat, sodium and sugar, labels should tell the buyer whether or not the product includes genetically engineered ingredients. Unfortunately, major corporations like Monsanto are pouring billions of dollars into this election in order to confuse voters, and protect their bottom line.

Kristin Bauer van Straten posted the following message on her Facebook:

Aside from my film Out For Africa and my love of animals, I also believe that we should label GMOs! Please take a look at the video I participated in with Dave Matthews, Danny DeVito, Bill Maher, and many more in support of California Prop37 and labeling GMOs in California! Oh, and this video is premiering on the television show Extra tonight, so please share with all your friends and family in California and lets demand our right to know!

“What makes you think you have the right to know?” asks Danny DeVito in a witty, ironic public service announcement by the political action committee sponsored by consumer advocacy group Food & Water Watch in support of Proposition 37. California’s ballot initiative to label genetically engineered foods. A diverse, all-star cast joins DeVito in the “Right to Know” PSA, including Bill Maher, Dave Matthews, Jillian Michaels, Emily Deschanel, John Cho, Glenn Howerton, Kaitlin Olson, KaDee Strickland and Kristin Bauer van Straten.

A wonderful event for the Italian True Blood fans, after the screening of episode 5.01 in Rome on October 3 during the Roma Fiction Fest, Alexander Skarsgård, Kristin Bauer and Valentina Cervi answered fan questions on stage.

Kristin talks about how she gets her roles and being manhands on Seinfeld, Alexander had to come to Rome to find his progeny again and Valentina explains that it’s easier to act in English than in Italian.

And for those in Rome…. Alex will walk the pink carpet again tonight starting at 7pm (19.00).

Kristin Bauer van Straten goes sightseeing in Rome

Posted by Shadaliza On October - 3 - 2012

Kristin Bauer is in Rome where she will attend the screening of True Blood tonight during the Roma Fiction Fest. She is making the most of her time in the eternal city by visiting as many monuments as she can with her husband Abri van Straten.

I had the honor and pleasure of accompanying the couple this Monday (October 1st) and visited places with them like Piazza del Popolo, Piazza di Spagna, Piazza Navona, Pantheon, Trevi Fountain and Villa Borghese. It was their first visit to Italy and Kristin was in awe of the history and art that can be found on every Roman street corner. Rome is not my hometown but having been there a couple of times before, I did manage to give her a little background info about the city and the places we visited. I also acted as translator because the driver of the car Kristin had at her disposal didn’t speak two words of English. It was quite the experience being driven through Rome in a black Mercedes with the Roma Fiction Fest logo printed on the side.

Kristin truly is the nicest, sweetest and most sincere person and it was a pleasure hanging out with her and Abri. One of the things that struck me was when we were walking through the park, she picked up a piece of stray plastic and threw it in the trash bin. This lady is one class act.
