Valentina Cervi to be on the Jury of the Rome Film Fest

Posted by Lynnpd On November - 1 - 2012

True Blood’s Salome, Valentina Cervi is in her home town of Rome and will be one of the judges at the Seventh Edition of the Rome Film Fest that takes place from November 9 – 17, 2012.

The main jury will hand out the festival’s most prestigious awards, including the Marcus Aurelius honors for Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, and four others.

The festival’s seven-person international jury to be headed by director and screenwriter Jeff Nichols. Along with Valentina Cervi, on the jury will be Russian-Kazakh director Timur Bekmambetov; Edgardo Cozarinsky, an Argentinean writer and director of Ukrainian origin; Australian director P.J. Hogan; film critic and Edinburgh International Film Festival director Chris Fujiwara; and Iranian actress Leila Hatami, the daughter of famed director Ali Hatami.

With the announcement of the full international jury, the only official information lacking to round out the festival’s program is the identity of the final two competition films. Rome artistic director Marco Mueller told The Hollywood Reporter that the titles are being withheld until the last minute in order to avoid problems from national censors in the home countries of the productions.

A wonderful event for the Italian True Blood fans, after the screening of episode 5.01 in Rome on October 3 during the Roma Fiction Fest, Alexander Skarsgård, Kristin Bauer and Valentina Cervi answered fan questions on stage.

Kristin talks about how she gets her roles and being manhands on Seinfeld, Alexander had to come to Rome to find his progeny again and Valentina explains that it’s easier to act in English than in Italian.

And for those in Rome…. Alex will walk the pink carpet again tonight starting at 7pm (19.00).

What do you think about the beautiful and diabolical Valentina Cervi‘s as Salomé?  I think she has added a lot to the cast and I am fascinated by the fact that Salome is an ancient  vampire with a penchant for seduction and hidden agendas.

HollywoodLife.com chatted with Valentina for the scoop on Russell Edgington’s “surprise” return, how first-vampire Lillith will “come into the picture,” and what to expect from the “incredible” season finale.

I’ll start with the obvious: Your character has a ton of sex.
Well… not more than anybody else on this show.

Wow, good answer. Were you a fan of ‘True Blood’ before you auditioned?
I had never seen it, so I watched the first four seasons on a weekend when I got the part, and totally got hooked. I thought, ‘Oh my God, I’m so lucky to be a part of this.’

Speaking of waiting, we’ve seen Salome do a lot of talking, but I’m hoping for some action from her. Will we see any?
There’s a lot of political issues this year, and that’s what we’re here to develop. So there will be action, for sure, but we’re more part of the intellectual, character-driven, political issue-driven group.

So not too much action? Not even when Russell comes back?
[Working with Denis O'Hare was wonderful.] There are going to be issues with Russell Edgington, of course. There will be moments of tension [but no big fight scene with Salome.]

How does Russell’s return change the tone of the season?
It changes everything. He will change, and we will change with him. There are going to be a lot of surprises. It’s almost like every character has their agenda, but we’re also touched by what the others do. I’m really excited for fans to see how Russell coming back affects Salome, how her religious journey could change, and where her heart lies.

Ah, her religious journey. I’m really hoping to actually see Lillith [the original vampire] this season. Will I get my wish?
Lillith, for sure, is going to come into the picture in some way. She’s already there in many ways, but you’re definitely going to hear a lot more about Lillith.

We just found out ‘True Blood’ has been renewed for a sixth season. Any chance Salome will stick around?
The truth is, nobody knows right now. The writers will get together and decide what next year’s going to be like.

Valentina Cervi and Chris Meloni on vampire sex and intimacy

Posted by Shadaliza On June - 26 - 2012

Salome was the luckiest gal on True Blood last Sunday. She got to do not one, not two, but three hot vampires.

Valentina Cervi who portrays Salome talks about vampire intimacy, while Chris Meloni talks about banging the Secretary of State.

Valentina Cervi sheds some light on Salome and Lilith

Posted by Shadaliza On June - 22 - 2012

A few minor spoilers in this interview of TVGuide with Valentina Cervi, the Italian actress who portrays Salome.

We briefly met Salome last week. What can you tell us of how she fits into the Vampire Authority?
Valentina Cervi:
She is the right hand of Roman at the beginning. She shares a very special intimacy with him, so they have a layered relationship. Every vampire has a different agenda in The Authority, and of course, we’re all next to Roman, but the interesting thing is that everybody has his or her own way of thinking, and when the season goes on, you will find out where everybody stands, and who everybody stands next to. Of course there’s a lot of Biblical and historical references because they have inspired Salome from the biblical Salome. She’s been a victim since she was a kid. She was sold by her mother when she was a kid, so she has a lot of hate in her, and she brings that hate and that need of love with her in the season.

How is this Salome different from what we know of the Bible?
Cervi:
Talking with the writers, we all agree on the fact that she has been betrayed as a kid. So today, she has this very complicated and sexual relationship with human beings. She can’t trust them. That’s why when she became a vampire, she could, in some way, stand up for her rights, and that’s where all her anger, her fear and also her pain comes from, from the betrayal that she received when she was a kid.

What do Salome and The Authority want from Bill and Eric?
Cervi:
There’s an apparent reason and it is to bring them on her side. She wants people to be on her side, and she understands who people are. At the beginning, she can’t really trust Eric. She knows Eric, she knows everything from his past, and she knows about Godric and Nora. With Bill, she feels that he is someone she can, in some way, manipulate more. At the same time, she respects Bill more because she sees his heart and she knows that he has a good heart. She’s really intrigued by him. She will have feelings for both of them during the season. It’s not that she wants something; she’s a loving character, even if it doesn’t seem like it. She’s full of love and needs to be loved. It’s complicated.

I hear we’ll actually meet Lilith this season. How does Salome feel about this person coming in and saying she’s the original vampire?
Cervi:
Salome really believes that Lilith is The Goddess, that Lilith is the God that we have to trust, and follow, and believe everything that is written in the Bible is true.

What kind of vampire is Lilith? Is she everything that Salome imagined?
Cervi:
Yes. She is the mother of everybody and people will see that in a different way. Vampires will perceive her in a different way. When Lilith appears, she’s everything that we all think she is. She’s this beautiful, seducing, motherly goddess, and then a lot of things are going to happen. I can’t reveal too much, but it’s not what it seems, and even we will be very surprised. You believe in something and then suddenly things change, then you find yourself in a crisis, but it’s great fun. It’s great fun because it really leaves all the doors open for the characters to explore different sides of their personality and different sides of life, if you can call that life.

True Blood’s Salome found in Italian actress Valentina Cervi

Posted by Shadaliza On November - 15 - 2011

The Italian actress Valentina Cervi has landed the role of Salome in True Blood’s fifth season.

According to the casting call we are dealing with THE Salome from the bible. Dark haired with dark features, exotic looking, Mediterranean, Middle Eastern and /or African. An ancient vampire who is a world class seductress and fiercely intelligent. She also has quite a lot of madness in her. She is the most powerful person in every way yet capable of hiding this power when it serves her purposes. Series Regular. Possible nudity.

Could this be this season’s dark force?
