Thanks. I’m always impressed by how gracious Charlaine is when discussing the differences. There’s something that has always bothered me, in the discussions/arguments about Alan Ball’s version of the story, especially in relation to the Sookie/Bill-Sookie/Eric debate. Alan Ball found and read the books and started negotiating early on in the book series. He conceived how he wanted to tell the story, wrote scripts and pitched the concept to HBO long before Sookie and Eric became an actual consentual couple (in 2009, Dead and Gone, while they were filming season two) and possibly even before Charlaine revealed that Bill was sent to Bon Temps by the queen. In my mind it gives even more weight, not that it was needed after the contract was signed, to the argument that it was his story to tell as he wanted to tell it.

I realize this has probably been discussed by others before, I just haven’t seen it. And it doesn’t mean I expect him to bring Sookie and Bill back together as a sure thing, although I hope for that, but I do mean that he doesn’t deserve the disrespect he gets from some for his comments about their connection. I respect Charlaine and am thankful for her giving us the characters and the story, but I am a fan of True Blood, the series, first and foremost.

This puts AB in a rather unique and possibly touchy position. Since TB was conceived and produced in the midst of the books being written, there is a faction that wants TB to follow the character arcs as written in the SSN series, and then there is the faction that wants AB to change the storyline of the books for a strictly TB one.

IDK if AB has the “end” wrapped up in his vision of the series, or if he is writing as a work in progress, without a preconceived conclusion.
Since reading Alexander Woo’s interview, I tend to think AB et al. are open to changing things around as they go forward. I also remember reading that AB may not remain as involved with the writing as the series goes forward, but become more of a “consultant” to the show. All of this information doesn’t answer the overriding question for so many TB viewers: “Who will Sookie end up with?”

I trust AB to “do his own thing” – and he has never been predictable!

I love the show, but I really don’t like the books. So if he decides to follow the books then I’m gone.

I really love what Alan Ball is doing with the series and am frustrated with people that just can’t accept the fact that these are 2 different entertainments and continuously insist that things go exactly as they do in the books.
