True Blood’s Kevin Alejandro will be appearing at a Fundraiser for the 2011 Season on Sunday December 5th and 12th at the Whitefire Theater in Sherman Oaks.  The fundraiser is called “Christmas Quickies” and is presented by the Moxie Theaterworks.

The current show, Christmas Quickies has only two performances: Sunday, December 5th & December 12th because it is a fundraiser for our new season in spring of 2011. This will include two more shows, tentatively titled: Quickies Floor (an office setting), Quickies It’s 5 O’clock Somewhere (a cocktail party). They have tremendously talented people in Christmas Quickies, including, Kelly Stables (Two and a Half Men, Romantically Challenged), Harley Jay (RENT on Broadway), Matt Iseman (Clean House, Sports Soup), Patty McCormack (The Bad Seed, Frost/Nixon), and of course, the fantastic Kevin Alejandro ( Southland, True Blood).

Ashley Taylor, Producer of the Quickies Play Series tells us a bit more about the MOXIE TheatreWorks.

“It was founded in 2005 and is a company dedicated to bringing smart and funny shows to an audience that wants to sit back, relax and have a great night of fun and laughter. More specifically, we chose 10-minute plays that share a common theme, and weave them together to create one cohesive and hilarious 90 minute comedy romp. Between 2005 and 2007, we created 5 volumes of a show dubbed: Tuesdays with Moxie.

After a year off to focus on other projects, we regrouped and decided to expand the focus, seeking out original works. A simple e-mail was sent to every writer we knew, essentially saying that we had a bedroom setting and their job was to write a 10-minute show that took place there. We received many entries, which were given anonymously to a selection committee who read, sorted, discussed, and finally chose the seven best for Friday Night Quickies!. It was a hit and sold out the entire 8 week run.

Because it worked so well, we’ve used the same process again and again, garnering excellent reviews, award nominations for acting, directing, and producing. The second show, Quickies Too !: Scenes from a Bar, took place in a “neighborhood bar” set and was so enjoyed by cast and audience alike, that we started a tradition of the audience joining the cast onstage for a post-show party after every performance! The most recent show, Quickies T(h)ree: Comedy al Fresco, took place on a park set boasting only a grass stage, tree, bench, and trashcan. It was the most popular show to date and we received more submissions than ever!”
