Michelle Forbes, who plays Maryann Forrester in the in Season 2 of True Blood, told TV Biz she thinks the award-winning program has “enormous staying power. There’s a possibility it will last nine years because Charlaine Harris has written nine books which the show is based on. “But ultimately it’s up to the audience to decide how long it’s relevant. It has an enormous following in the US. There is a lot of stories to tell so I hope it’s around for a long time.”
Well True Blood fans know how great the show is and hope that Michelle is right.
And the former Star Trek actress reckons True Blood has been such a hit because it’s not just about vampires.
She said: “The great thing about True Blood is that it’s not just about vampires.
“It’s about a telepathic waitress, it’s about a shape shifter, it’s about a young girl Tara finding herself, it’s about the town’s deputy policeman who is tortured and longing for respect and love. It’s about love, intimacy and family.
“Vampires happen to be a part of it but it’s not just about them. The appeal for a lot of people is that it’s more the town with different creatures living together. There’s broader appeal for True Blood because it’s not just focusing on the vampire mythology.
“There’s such a plethora of different characters that there’s always someone for people to identify with.”
Meanwhile, Michelle said much more about her character will come out in the second series of True Blood.
She hints: “When we’re introduced to Maryann at the end of the first season she is a bit of a mysterious, dodgy character. We don’t quite know what she’s up to. She seems fixated on Tara and has some sort of history with Sam.
“As we move into the second season a lot more is revealed about her agenda and her intentions, and who and what she is comes out.”
