A new casting call for season 2 has just been released.

Spoiler alert!

Read the casting call after the cut.

[QUEEN SOPHIE ANNE]
Vampire Queen of Louisiana. Originally from France (no accent necessary), Sophie-Anne has been a vampire for almost five hundred years. She is charming, wily, ruthless and wise. With one foot in the old world and one in the new, she rules all vampires in the state of Louisiana, engages with Kings and Queens from other states. Brilliant and far-sighted, she is a consummate diplomat, politician and adversary. Incredibly cultured, has known many of history’s most famous people personally — as well as had affairs with many of them — she is entertaining, funny, dangerous and delightful.
Scheduled for one appearance in season 2, she will figure in future seasons.

Here we go Bill’s girls …. Hang on. Hoping Alan Ball knows our Bill is part of the reason of the show’s success. I see the Queen is up for one appearance and then on for future seasons (if he keeps the viewers happy). But I did notice in the episodes from Season 1 that Bill had money: expensive car; clothes changed for the better (leather coat -sexy); TV golf (whatever that is called), elaborate bathroom, etc. It appears he was receiving money, at least to me. BUT I hope he just has a hefty bank account stemming from his 173 years of being a vampire!

Wonder why not age requirement on the Queen???? she is at least 16, so that would certainly be a factor.

I see this as a good thing. They are not dragging the storyline out

    Oh, no!

    O____O

I hope AB knows how to please us all.

Eh…I’m not worried. I think Sophie-Anne is a wonderful, interesting character. One that Alan Ball couldn’t possibly leave out. I also think the storyline involving Bill’s “conflict of interest” (falling in love with Sookie instead of just securing her services) is too good to pass up as well. They’ve already given us enough hints. All the talk about “Sookie must be protected” and how easily Bill was taken in by the Rattrays always bothered me a little bit. (However, that doesn’t mean that he knew she was a telepath, perhaps his instructions were to just get close to Sookie and look after her.)

Maybe the one scene for Sophie-Anne this season is scheduled for the season finale, or close to it? They are just about to start episode 6, would they put out a casting call for an actor if they weren’t filming him/her until episode 12?

Let’s not forget that Sophie-Anne could also be seen as a flashback, along with Lorena.

If you are a Bill lover, you should be worried – if AB does to Bill what CH did in her books, he’s out of there. I never really understood (except to introduce new “creatures”) why CH tossed Bill out of the books like “a chicken bone” as Sookie says.

    Becca,totally agree

i mean i dont mind bill and sookie having some conflicts. otherwise the show will be boring but as long as the character is still include and still developing..hopefully Ball will treat tv-bill better than CH

  8. Sanna says:

Well, I’m not worried because I think Alan will make the situatioon better. And we will see things from Bill’s POV now and we didn’t have that in the books. I think there will be a similar situation bit in another….way, if that makes sense

The phrase I love here is “she will figure in future seasons” – is that a guarantee there will be a Season 3??

  10. Sanna says:

I don’t think so. I think it menas that if there will be futurte seasons, she will be in them. There’s nothing official about a 3rd season yet :-)

  11. BPositive says:

Well, we can hope, can’t we?!

  12. Susan says:

Becca, I am a Bill-lover, but I’m not worried because so is Alan Ball. Bill’s not going anywhere.

  13. ToriG0910 says:

Lordy…. I sure do hope you are all right… Bill not going anywhere! I can hardly stand the suspense. And this show is “tight-lipped” about what is truly going to happen…. and that makes it even more special and exciting!

How Sophie-Anne is younger than Eric? Have to read the books again, I keep forgetting details, thought the queen was almost as old as Godric. I wonder if Andre will be in the series too? And Sookie’s cousin? Maybe she is there for another reason?

    I need a life…

  15. westexan says:

She is younger in appearance, not how many years old she is. She was turned at a young age

  16. FWC says:

I don’t recall she being 500 yo, but well, I do remember reading she was younger than Eric , in both ways.

And I agree if Sanna about the Bill thing, we’r soo getting everyones pov’s, it would’nt mind that much if all happened like in the books. At least we would know the truth about all the hidden intentions, well, at least from AB’s perspecive :P.

I will no longer tune into to a show I can’t enjoy, no bill.

  18. jms says:

Well, I’m not worried. AB and CH are talented writers with a lot to offer. I’ve heard before that AB likes to leak info to lead those like us astray. So one just needs to take this all with a grain of salt. Let’s just enjoy the ride.
AB is clearly making the world of Sookie Stackhouse his own, and has already taken the show in a new direction (Jessica, anyone) that fans can enjoy too. As for Bill, he is clearly being made more into a valiant-vampire hero than he was in the books. It would be so boring if the show was a carbon copy of CH’s work.
Anyway, I think Bill will still be around for a long time. Besides, I’m more of an Eric fan (no offense).

In the books Sophie Anne is 1100 years old. I think we’ll get a more balanced view of this whole story and Bill will not be leaving the show in any way since we’re seeing much more than Sookie’s life .

Oh and I forgot ,it would be nice to see a French actress or someone who can do a good French accent well in this role since if she’s been living in New Orleans for years she may have kept some semblance of it. Johnny Depp’s woman Vanessa Paradis would be perfect, she’s French ,but speaks English well ,is an actress ,is mature so she could play a older vampire ,but she looks much younger than she is . She’s pretty but in an unusual way which works really well for actors playing vampires.

  22. Adrianne says:

I see that this casting call has all of the old rivalries up and running again! Whatever our loyalties, I think we should remain mindful of certain realities (1) Charlaine wrote 8 books before the 1st one was ever brought to television. I know everyone will say that this is because she never trusted anyone, but it may be for other reasons too (2) The person who she did trust to bring her work to television was Alan Ball. He has stated over and over that he’s a fan (especially) of the first FOUR books and that what interests him most is Bill Compton’s journey. (3) Alan Ball has developed this show in a way that now appeals to a diverse audience. I think if you look at the demographics for the majority of the Sookie books, you will find that they appeal to a much less diverse demographic. That said, if Mr. Ball caters too much to a limited demographic, will he create a show that is destined for cancellation? Hmmm, I don’t know, do you? (4) All of the main characters have tremendous potential for development. That alone could keep us busy for a few seasons. (5) Mr. Ball is a gay man and his work tends to make statements about the disenfranchised, because that is a part of his life he cannot completely ignore. For all of his statement that True Blood is just “popcorn” and not wanting to bore anyone by getting up on a soapbox, I will be very surprised if these statements do not just continue, but start to come from places you might not expect. I haven’t heard the the uber-macho Viking god Eric make any statements about equal rights, tolerance and the disenfranchised yet. That might be nice to see.
    (steps down from soapbox)

Adrianne, I totally agree with you, and cannot add another thing. And as a Billsbabe, I don’t see him going away anytime soon either, Alan Ball has stated that he likes the Bill character. I think we can feel safe that he will treat Bil much better than CH did in the books.

I saw True Blood before I read the books. (What a difference…Tara is completely different!) After the first season, I was hooked on Bill. Now that I am finishing book number eight, I have to say I am now an Eric fan. However AB chooses to play this out, I trust him to do what is best for the show and for the fans. I just can’t wait for season two!!
