F--K you all!! This show will make history as the first show that features actors / actress' in their mid 20's to 30's who actually DIE filming the last season of the show of old age. I think it will break the record of concurrent seasons of around 43-44 season. ;)

OK, OK... I know this is all BS... it would be pretty cool to see a season for each book but I think an overall good crew can keep things interesting for as long as any other VERY good show has. Somewhere around 7-10 seasons. If the material is there from the books than there is no reason the episodes wont be good.

However, I don't think it would reach the status of Sopranos. So many people followed that show... I remember going to work and hearing my boss and his friends talking about the final episode... hearing moms talk about it in line at the Post Office and Food Store. I think the Pope even mentioned something.... =)

Personally, I think this show is an equal contender with Sopranos, mostly because they are so different. But... the Sopranos is one of the best/ the best (people can argue that forever) Cosa Nostra (mafia) show ever scripted to film. Period. (It has a bit on the Godfather mostly because of detail and length) and True Blood has no show or movie that is as creative in a story not only of Vampires but other ficticious creatures such as the daemons, shape-shifters, telepath's, werewolves, etc. I think that those new movies based on the books... uh...Twilight... that movie sucked. I kinda enjoyed it but... damn, they skimped out on Special Effects. Anyone see it? The part when the vampire says 'this is why we don't go in the light' and he runs to the top of a hill and stands in a beam of light shining through the trees in the woods. Dude, I watched that on Blue-ray... you CAN'T see anything. There is no 'sparkles' or any difference between the vampire in the dark or light. They skimped on everything... ruined the books. BUT, these stories do justice to the book series. It's not easy to do that, at all.

Uh... of coarse, that's merely the opinion of some guy you don't know anything about who could just be a homeless psychopath who got momentary access to the internet through an internet cafe....

i think the long term money making potential negates the production costs. hbo has held onto a few shows that while cost less to produce don't have as many ratings. plus this show is now the face of hbo. i disagree with wanting the show to continue 10+ years. no show maintains it's spark with a more than 6 season run. this is my favorite show ever, but i don't want filler episodes or seasons. i know charlaine has more books planned, but i believe in quality over quantity. i couls see the show stretching to maybe 7 seasons, but not more, even that would be pushing it. then it would get like buffy towards the end and have to introduce all kinds of randomness to try and keep interest.

cocoablossoms,
I completely agree with you. However, I like to play Devil's advocate here and argue that True Blood can be more expensive to film because it has special effects. HBO may have to consider that when opting for renewal. And as many of the Bookies (book fans) know the farther down the road, the more weird things get for Sookie ( i.e. Weres, Fairies, Demons etc.). In other words, more special effects and a bigger budget.
In this economy, I've always learned to be cautious in my optimism.

And please DON'T GET ME WRONG- I'd love this show to have 10 seasons (at least). I'm just playing devil's advocate here and would like to here other peoples thoughts on this.

And again, Cocoablossoms, I agree with you! :-)

alan has talked about already planning season three, but no official confrimation. hbo has already invested too much in this show to drop it and that would be the stupidest thing ever if they don't renew it. the show has too much potential to make money beyond even subscriptions and dvd.blue-ray sales. the cross marketing and merchandising potential is excellent. true blood can be branded even bigger than the sopranos and sex and the city.

Usually HBO confirms a renewal halfway through the current season. Hopefully, we'll hear something by the end of the month. With these ratings I really can't see them refusing.
I'm always the cautious optimist.

Any thoughts?

I wonder how many of the 10.8 million viewers signed up for HBO just to check out True Blood?? Well, I'm one of them. Dropped my old premium channel and signed up for HBO; before Season 2 started I bought the DVD of Season One in Standard and Blue Ray. Loaned out my Standard copy to my neighbor ~ and she is now a subscriber of HBO.

True Blood deserves future seasons. The cast and crew are exceptional ~ and Mr. Ball is a genius!
