SFX Magazine Vampires Special Edition (came out today). Season 4 is airing in the UK now, so this is all about Season 4 and a review of the Season 3 blu-ray.

Click on the images for a larger view.

There is one faux pas made by the magazine however, the photo in the page below is of Brit Morgan, not Alexandra Breckenridge who played Katarina Pelham in Season 4.

Thanks for AphroditeMF for the scans.

I would like to be able to read the scans. But I can’t seem to be able to blow them up. I hope there is a lot of great stuff about Bill.

Try right clicking on one of them and choosing, open in a new “window” or “tab”. Then, they will be displayed full size and you should be able to read them.

I’ve seen it before, but I just love that shot from the graveyard showdown in S4. Bill in front, and everyone standing behind him. Thanks to Aphrodite and The Vault for bringing us these goodies.

Poor Alexandra B. At least they got the name and interview right!

I’m not liking what I read in Kristin’s part of the interview about Alexander Woo’s version of Pam and Eric’s story. It figures he would have to mess with that. They should nickname him Alan Ball Jr.

Interesting to read the divergent opinions on the show’s success … where it’s come from and where it’s going. I can’t wait to see where Season 5 takes my favorite characters (and they are many). I still think it a naughty, sexy stew, with humor and violence thrown in … extremely well written and well acted. Can’t wait to see how the pot is stirred in S 5.

Thanks, Lynn, and Aphrodite for the scans.

I loved reading the differing opinions as well. I found myself agreeing with points presented on both sides. Very interesting.

    Looking forward to S5!!

Even great series can have a few stumbling blocks but over all I do not feel TB is losing steam. Looking forward to S5 .

It was rather an interesting article.

Despite its flaws and what they’d like to see changed, every single wet blanket naysayer will have their face pressed up against their TV when True Blood is back on again.

I believe the charm is not in the sex or the shocks but rather, it’s in the vampire-human interface. It’s how vampires have come out of the closet into society which is completely fresh as a concept. Find me any other vampire show where vampires live among humans openly in society. The theme was set in the first season in the first episode where the college kids tried to buy V, only to be scared off by an indignant vampire (who leaves the store saying “have a nice day”). It was like, they had me at hello, right then and there. Another seminal scene was when Malcolm and his naughty nest mates sauntered into Merlotte’s and took center stage only to face opposition and finally Bill pulling them away much to Sookie’s dismay.

My only constructive criticism is that they can’t seem to decide on who is the Principal player. Is it Sookie (like in the books) or is it Bill (the most popular character by far)?? Once they decide that, and I think it should be Bill, they can settle into a theme and intertwine the supporting cast into the theme each season. The theme could easily be about Bill’s journey back to his humanity, perhaps culminating either in him becoming human again (magically or scientifically) or in him coming to know what truly defines his own humanity. He comes to a point of peace within himself. Once he does that, the romance can be decided but in my opinion, not until then.

Maybe Bill was suppose to be the most popular character, although he isn’t. I will also agree that AB/TB should decide either whether it’s the Bill or Sookie Tb show.

There is a lot of criticism of the show in the articles. I found Will Salmon’s review much more in line with some of my criticisms than the other review. I enjoyed The interview with Ms. Breckenridge very much. I really liked that character, and wish she lived longer.

Although the show does, at times, seem to have a cast of thousands, and sometimes the episodes may suffer from a “choppiness” due to jumping from one character’s s/l to another, I find it so much more interesting, fun, smart, sexy, and spine-tingling than anything else on TV.

Yes, I do hope Sookie is on her own this season, and I am looking forward to some forced cooperation between Bill and Eric as they take on the vampire hierarchy. Although other species have been brought into the mix, the vampires are by far the most fascinating and intriguing!

I agree with Selle that the vampire/human interactions and the problems they encounter are the most satisfying of the plot elements.

I continue to thank Alan Ball for such a terrific series. I feel Alex Woo, Raelle Tucker, and Alan Ball are some of the best writers anywhere! The team is so talented, from sets to music to all the production pieces, and the acting is sublime.

This show set the bar so high that naturally it is criticized more closely than lesser shows. But in no way do I sense it “losing steam.” It continues to be fun, fascinating, smart, and exciting. I have no doubt S5 will blow me away, just as every season has!
