It’s hard for me to believe that we’re now half way through the season and wow, at the end of this episode, what a shocker! At the halfway point they are really raising the stakes (no pun intended) and giving us lots to think about.
Below are a few random thoughts about the episode.
Sam Joins the Cause
At the end of last week’s episode, Sam and Luna had just been shot and we had no idea if they lived or not. In this episode we first see them as they are rushed to the emergency room, still alive. At the time of the shooting, Luna’s daughter, Emma had changed into a wolf and ran to her Grandmother Martha’s house for protection. Sam and Luna are recovering in the hospital when Martha arrives with Emma. Even though Luna is not happy about it she asks Martha if she will take care of Emma while she and Sam try to find out who is killing shapeshifters.
Sam and Andy join forces to try and find out who tried to kill them and who killed their friends, Emery and Suzanne. The two go to the Stakehouse to try to find out more since it seems to be the best place to start. While there, Sam saves Andy’s life when the owner tries to shoot him. I’m glad to see that Andy is letting Sam help him since Sam’s skills as a shifter certainly will help him.
Questions:
How could Sam have recovered so quickly from his gun shot wound?
Do Shapeshifters heal quickly.
Hoyt is Desperate
The character of Hoyt is really tragic this season; I truly feel for him. He is so obviously still in love with Jessica and her continued rejection results in a “death wish’ as he allows a vampire to drain him. However, we see Hoyt get saved when the vampire killers shoot the vampire feeding on him. Hoyt’s desperation makes me worry he might join their forces because when we last see him they take him away in their van proclaiming that they have just saved his life.
Terry Is Cursed
After the fire and the appearance of the Ifrite, we see Terry, who truly believes he is cursed by what happened in Iraq, return to Merlotte’s to say, what he considers to be his last “Goodbye” to Arlene. She of course, believes that he is just “off his meds” and tries to talk him out of it. The scene between them is quite touching, and I wonder where Terry intends to go or what he might do to end the curse.
Questions:
Do you think that Terry is doomed?
What is Arlene going to do without a father for her children?
Lafayette and Ruby Jean
Ruby Jean is back in another scene with her son, Lafayette that displays the talents of Alfre Woodard. Ruby and Lafayette are so suited to each other; it really feels like they are related and have a bond, however much Ruby Jean seems to be crazy. Personally, I think she is in a psycho ward because of the visions she sees and her powers are similar to her sons; that’s why Lafayette has powers, too. She warns Lafayette telling him that he has to find Don Partolo.
Question:
I worry for Lafayette, what do you think?
Jason and Sookie go to Fearyland
Sookie is pretty much despondent because of what happened when Bill pretended to glamour her and when Alcide recoiled from her. Jason has a dream where he talks to his father and he swears to find his parent’s killers. Jason tells Sookie about the death of her parents, she is curious and the brother and sister go to the Faery Bar to find out more. Once in there, they meet up with Claude, who tells Sookie and Jason how their parents died. While on the bridge a vampire comes upon them because he smelled Sookie’s blood on a band aid that was lying on the back seat of the car. Sookie realizes that she is the cuase of her parent’s death and she finds it hard to cope with.
Question:
Who killed Sookie’s parents?
Alcide declares he’s Pack-master
After being glamoured by Eric into not being attracted to Sookie, Alcide recoils from Sookie and he leaves her house. The next time we see him, he goes to Marcus’ pack declaring himself as leader. He has to fight one of the wolves for the privilege and is seconded by Rikki.
Do you all agree with me that Rikki might be Alcide’s next love interest?
The Authority and Vampires
For me, this is the most enjoyable story line this season. At the start of the episode, which resumes as our hero vampires have found Russell, the Authority storms in just as Bill and Eric are fighting over whether Russell should be staked. Bill is in the process of convincing Eric that its not their decision to stake him. Kibwe arrives with his men and they take possession of Russell, making their dispute moot.
Kibwe notices that there are humans and wolves there and they can’t know about any of this, but Bill convinces him that they can be glamoured to forget. Eric then glamours Alcide telling him to protect Sookie with his life, but to keep his hands off of her because she disgusts him. Likewise, Bill pretends to glamour Sookie, (as we know, she cannot be glamoured), but the pseudo-glamouring is more of a goodbye between the two because Bill thinks that they will never see each other again. It’s a poignant moment.
Kibwe takes the humans who were prisoners, as well as Alcide’s employee, Doug and puts them into a truck as if they were being taken home. Unfortunately, for them, they meet the true death by him.
Eric and Bill are taken back to the Authority headquarters and are congratulated by all the Authority members for finding Russell. The I-stakes are removed that lay over their hearts and they are offered drinks. Roman enters with some vintage blood for all to drink. Eric and Bill play along with whatever Roman wants, but several times we see Bill squirm in his seat in fear that Eric will say or do the wrong thing.
Roman decides that Russell must die tonight, but Salome seems unhappy with the idea. The scene that is supposed to be Russell’s execution, is quite dramatic. Russell is now the one wearing the I-stake. Roman stands behind Russell and hit’s the kill button on his iphone I-stake app and it malfunctions. This gives Russell the opportunity to stand and grab a stake and kill Roman’s by pushing it into his heart and killing him.
This ends the episode.
Questions:
What or who made the I-stake app malfunction?
Who betrayed Roman?
Clearly there is someone else in the Authority who is a traitor to Roman’s cause?
Who do you think it is? Will Sam and Luna join forces with the vampires?
Is this the holy war we’ve been hearing about?
I’m sure you have opinions and questions. Leave us your thoughts in the comments below.

1) How could Sam have recovered so quickly from his gun shot wound? Do Shapeshifters heal quickly.
>>In the books, they don’t heal as quickly as vampires, but quicker than regular humans.
2) Do you think that Terry is doomed? What is Arlene going to do without a father for her children?
>>To tell the truth, this is one storyline that I don’t give a damn about. Have loved Terry in previous seasons, but at this point, I really don’t care if this ifrit kills him and Patrick. Let’s just move on.
3) I worry for Lafayette, what do you think?
>>I just hope Lala gets his mojo back soon. And love Ruby Jean! She never fails to crack me up. I hope Alfre Woodard makes more appearances. “Jesus needs you. Save Jesus!” haha
4) Do you all agree with me that Rikki might be Alcide’s next love interest?
>>I think she wouldn’t turn him down. Wish I knew how she’s connected to Marcus and his mama and daddy. I hate when they throw new characters on us with no explanation as to who they are and what their purpose is in the storyline.
5) What or who made the I-stake app malfunction? Who betrayed Roman? Clearly there is someone else in the Authority who is a traitor to Roman’s cause? Who do you think it is?
>>They are making it seem that Salome would be the most likely suspect. Whether or not this is the case remains to be seen. But she was the one supposedly interrogating Russell, weakening him with the silver IV, and was to put an iStake on him. So she’s the one who definitely had the opportunity to make sure Russell would be able to stake Roman.
Will Sam and Luna join forces with the vampires?
>>I think their fight will be different from the vampires.
Is this the holy war we’ve been hearing about?
>>What holy war?

Thanks for answering the questions Emie, interesting theories.

Thanks, Lynn, for providing this intensive look at episode 6.
The Bill-Sookie glamor scene was touching and sad. It was his goodbye to her on his behalf and Eric’s. Eric made sure his glamor of Alcide included protection for Sookie as well as a romantic hands off admonition.
Denis O’Hare was magnificent as Russell. So good to have him back.
And Kudos to Alfre Woodard, who returned as Ruby Jean. Poor Ruby J has all this electricity running through her. And has no idea how and why she knows the things she does. I’m wondering how Lafayette can help Jesus if his grandfather, Don Bartolo, has a hold on him. Don Bartolo is still alive (that’s how we saw him last) and Jesus is dead. So I’m wondering what gives there.
I felt for Doug and the bus load of folks who went from the frying pan to the fire (or in this case the fangs of Kibwe).
Sam and Luna were lively gunshot victims as they were wheeled on gurneys through the hospital hall. Luna’s wound looked more serious; yet she was conscious and shouting for Emma. Sam definitely healed quickly and was soon out and about saving Andy’s life in the Stake Shop. Hopefully Andy will take him up on his offer to help track down the vigilante shooters. I’ll enjoy watching them work together. I’m glad Luna and Grandma Martha came to an understanding. Now Emma has a safe haven while her mom recovers, and those targeting shifters are hunted down.
I fear for both Hoyt and Terry. I’m not fond of Hoyt’s fang banger persona. I miss the old Hoyt. Jess has told him it’s over between them but he refuses to believe it. The smoke monster story isn’t doing it for me. I hate to see Terry walk away from Arlene. When he told her point blank that if he stayed with her she and the children would die, she said “you’d better go.” I’m not sure Terry will survive the season.
Pam administering more tough love to Tara. It will be fun watching their relationship develop.
Alcide has an attractive second in Rikki. It sounds like he has won her over. I think she’ll be a love interest for him.
“What or who made the I-stake app malfunction?” “Who betrayed Roman?”
I’m looking at Salome. I think Nora is in cahoots with her, but Salome is the master mind. She was the one interrogating Russell, the one who silvered him. It would be easy for her to cause the malfunction and to neglect the silvering. The stake used against Roman was in a box on the table (it’s the one Roman used on Drew). Salome could have told Russell where it was, and when the time was right a much-stronger-than-he-appeared Russell went for it. Roman’s demise half way through the season was totally unexpected by me.
“Will Sam and Luna join forces with the vampires?”
I’m hoping Sam and Andy will work together; Luna may help also when she recovers. I don’t see them joining forces with the vampires.
“Is this the holy war we’ve been hearing about?”
I can see a war between the Sanguinistas and the Mainstreamers brewing. At this point I’d like to say that I don’t trust any of the Authority members any further than I can see them.
The Fairy Club was entertaining but for me, a little goes a long way. Will Sookie persuade Hadley to leave with Hunter? Jason appears determined to find out what vampire was responsible for their parents’ deaths. Will Sookie join him in that quest? And speaking of malfunctions, Sook’s magic fingers sputtered and did zip toward the end of the episode.
A good one. It left me wanting more and eager for episode 7.

“Who killed Sookie’s parents?” My hunch is Roman. I don’t have a lot to back it up … just a feeling.

I would be dangerous if I could get all my thoughts organized into one post. Just a quickie to say “thank you, Lynn” for the pics and the vids. It’s great to get the actors’ take on what’s happening or likely to happen in their characters’ lives.

Lynn your Random Thoughts are excellent and the accompanying video clips helps one understand “just what the heck happen”? Is Roman really dead dead? Did they pull a GOT on us and get rid of the main character….. Papa Bear said so in the clip. I do have to say Russell was awesome. I still can’t believe Roman is dead.
Love the Lafayette and Ruby Jean interaction but am not looking forward to creepy gramps returning.
Also not looking forward to more of the fire monster but the Terry and Arlene scenes are well done.
Poor Hoyt…. so sad and what will happen to him next?
Luna, Sam, Alcide, wolves – the whole lot of their stories, I only like to see Emma shift into a wolf pup. I hope this somehow ties in with the rest of Merlotts and Bill and Eric.
The betrayers I think are Salome, Kibwe and Nora, and very soon I’m sure The Lilith will grace us with her serene presence. The best line was Eric telling Bill what sexual favor Lilith can perform on him (I’ll let someone else type it) it was classic Eric.
Another classic scene was the Bill faux glamouring Sookie but truthfully saying goodbye to her AGAIN and telling her to live her life in the sun and with humans, not with him. I was crying….
Over at Cirque du Fae Sookie just found out that a vampire picked up her scent via a discarded blood stained bandaid in her parents’ car just before said vampire kills them. DON’T MAKE BILL COMPTON THEIR KILLER!!!

I thought Emma’s grandmother’s name was Martha?

You are both correct. The casting calls that came out from HBO said Annie at one point and we took them at their word. It is now corrected here and in our episode guide. Thanks for point it out to us.

Great recap/random thoughts write up. Lots to ponder before we see 5.07.
Did anyone notice that weregal Rikki used nearly the exact same line in this episode as Tara did in Season 1 when she was bartending at Merlotte’s and talking to Jason? Here’s the lines:
Rikki(referring to JD): He’s a gigantic parody of himself.
Tara(talking to Jason): You’re a gigantic parody of yourself.
A phrase of note or just a Southern colloquialism we’re being re-introduced to.

Why doesn’t Luna and Sam shift into Siberian Tigers and take out the wolves? They were trapped by them a couple of episodes ago. Apparently they can shift into anything of large or smaller body mass. I’m well aware that to create that realistic scene is unnreachable. But the easy out nonetheless.
