This week’s episode proved to be more than a turning point, it’s a new world order. We saw the end of two story lines and the beginning of others. Terry finally resolved his issues from Iraq and the Supernatural haters were exposed. For me, this is good because I am hoping they’ll focus on the vampires in the last three episodes as that story line intrigues me the most. Has Bill truly become a Sanguinista? Could Eric be killed by him? The Tru Blood factories are being destroyed, people are panicking, what else? Below are a few random thoughts about this episode.
Resolved storylines
Pig Farm – Who’s the Dragon?
Jason is determined to find out where Hoyt is especially after Jessica tells him, its her fault that he is kidnapped. Andy and Jason find out that who the Dragon is when they see a video on the web site of the vampire haters who are in the process of watching a vampire burn up in the sunlight. Andy notices the boots that one of them is wearing; they are the very same boots that were given to Bud Dearborn when he retired as Sheriff. So, now they know it’s Bud, so they proceed to his house to find him. Luna and Sam are also on the case even though Andy banished them from the investigation. They decided that they would turn themselves into flies on the wall, and find out whatever Andy and Jason discover.
However, Sookie has beaten them all to to the scene when she goes to see Bud after she and Lafayette discover that Bud was the one who found Sookie’s parent’s bodies. Unfortunately for her, as she tries to read Bud’s mind, Sweetie Des Arts (Bud’s new gal) steps in and hits Sookie over the head with a frying pan. When we next see poor Sookie she is tied up in a pig barn where she finds Hoyt who is passed out and also tied up.
When Jason and Andy and the rest of the police force get to Bud’s, no one is there. Jason sees a photo of his second grade teacher on a shelf in Bud’s house and remembers that she used to have a Pig farm nearby. They race to the pig farm, but not before Sam and Luna.
Sam arrives at the pig farm first and finds Sookie and Hoyt both held prisoners and just about to be in big trouble. Sookie and Hoyt seem to be in for it as the pigs are led into the stall where they are presumably to either be eaten or trampled to death. Sam has turned himself into a pig in order to gain access and as he becomes human again he grabs Sookie taking her to safety and attacks Bud and the other Obamas. Sweetie Des Arts runs from the scene, but not before Luna appears as a wolf and runs after he catching her and beating her up. Jason and Andy arrive and help Sam and end up killing Bud and taking the others prisoner. We hope that Hoyt will be OK, but Jason seems very concerned that his friend might not make it.
Terry Puts an End to his Torment from Iraq
Terry is bound and determined to meet up with Patrick and have a fair fight to the end since we learned that one of them had to be sacrificed to satisfy the Ifrite. Arlene tries desparately to talk him out of it, but he persists and leaves. She goes to work at Merlotte’s and is captured there by Patrick who also wants a show down but intends to be the winner. Terry arrives and Patrick tells him to leave his weapons outside. Terry does as he bids and comes in to find Arlene being held hostage by Patrick. A struggle ensues, thanks to Arlene’s quickness, and Terry gets the upper hand. He hesistates killing Patrick even though Arlene urges him to pull the trigger. Then, the Iraqi women that Terry killed appears saying that it must be done. He kills Patrick and then the Ifrite comes in and swoops up Patrick’s body. Presumably now all is well and Terry has paid for his misdeed. I can’t say I’m too unhappy that this storyline is over, but I’m glad Terry and Arlene are OK.
The new crop of story lines yet to be solved.
Sookie’s Looks for the killer of her parents
Sookie calls Lafayette over to help her discover who the creepy, scary ghost is that threatened her in her bathroom. It looked like Warlow, the vampire that is supposed to have killed her parents, so she hopes that Lafayette can help her find out more and get him to go away. Instead of connecting to him, Lafayette manages to reach lots of other dead people (sort of like Whoopi Goldberg in Ghost), including Sookie’s grandmother. Gran tells him that under her bed are clues to the mystery.
Sookie and Lafayette find out from looking at the old photos and newspaper clippings found under Gran’s bed that Bud Dearborn was the one who found her parents and Sookie now thinks that she will be able to find out who this vampire is. Unfortunately, when Sookie goes to question Bud Dearborn, she finds out the other secret about him and almost loses her life. At the end of the episode, she is visited by Claude and two of his sisters and it looks like they will be trying to help her in future episodes to solve her Nancy Drew who killed my parents mystery.
Will Sookie find out what happened to her parents? Who are all those dead people that keep bothering Lafayette? How do the faeries come in to play, which I’m sure they do?
The Werewolves – Russell finds love and a new puppy
The only glimpse we get of Alcide this episode is when he is on his way to see his daddy and thinks about his youth. He arrives at his father’s trailer and tells him that he is no longer packmaster and has been abjured from the pack. His daddy says, “So, you’re now a lone wolf like me.” I think that Alcide might have a chance though to get back on top since the current packmaster is in for a lot of trouble by drinking the “V” that Russell provides.
Russell and Steve Newlin’s relationship seems to be getting closer and closer. We find out in this episode that JD’s been drinking Russell’s blood and his pack is now under Russell’s control. Russell brings Steve along with him as he comes to see the pack and as he gives blood to the weres, he notices the werepup (Emma) in her grandmother’s arms. Knowing that Steve has never had a pet before, he asks Martha to drink his blood and when she refuses he rips Emma from her arms and gives him to Steve as a gift.
Sam and Luna are on their way to pick up Emma now that they have settled things with the dragon lady and her followers, but they are in for a surprise when they get there and find that Emma has been taken by Russell. I am guessing that with Luna’s temper she won’t lie down and take it and will instead put her and Sam in harms way to find her daughter.
Is Emma the pup in danger? Will Alcide help the pack get out of Russell’s domination? What’s going to happen to the relationship between Steve and Russell? Will Steve be his new “Talbot?”
Has Bill Gone to the Dark Side?
The Authority have really gone bonkers as far as I’m concerned. I thought Steve Newlin was bad in Season 2 and Russell Edgington was bad in Season 3, but now with them together and in cahoots with Salome, there’s no end to the mayhem that will result. The Tru Blood factories are burning and soon there will be no holding back vampires from openly feeding on humans. I do remember hearing however that there are far more humans than vamps in the world, so this might be a war that the humans might just win.
Eric is the only vampire that appears to be sane this season except of course, for our steady Pam who is holding down the fort at Fangtasia while her former maker is away or being held captive by The Authority. Poor Pam and Tara are attempting to keep things normal in Fangtasia but Pam has a rude awakening when she finds out that there is a new Sheriff named Elijah in Shrevesport who is not a mainstreamer.
Bill worries Eric and I’m worried about him, too. Has Bill gone over to the dark side? It sure appears to be that way. The hallucinations (which I firmly believe they are) and Salome’s insistence that he is chosen have made him believe that he really might be “one of the chosen.” Frankly, I don’t believe it and think he is under a spell, as is Nora. Religious zealots are often the most dangerous and when you add Russell Edgington’s insanity to the mix there is no telling what will happen now.
Poor Eric is taken prisoner at the end of this episode because Bill has betrayed him, but only time will tell if this betrayal is real or not. I still believe that Bill has a plan, or let’s hope so anyway.
Do you believe that Bill is a traitor? Will Eric be killed? What will happen to Russell and his werewolves? Will he turn on Salome in the end?
The next three episodes are going to be great and I am happy to strap myself in for the ride.

So much happened this episode, my head is still spinning. The dragon storyline sure wrapped up quickly freeing up Sam and Luna to connect with the vampire storyline now that Steve has Emma for a pet. I bet Sookie will be connected to the main storyline as well in the next episode.
The werewolf storyline doesn’t really have my interest, it’s not moving forward.
Shocked about the conclustion of the Ifrit plot, how will Terry ever live with himself again?
Can I just say that I totally love Jason? He is hilarious and he doesn’t even know it.
A new sheriff of Area 5 means that Eric’s number is up.
Bill, what hast thou done? Snap out of it! but he did get to do 3 women in 1 scene!

Well, I admit that Bill might be under the influence of the blood and/or Lilith, but I simply refuse to believe that he has totally gone to the dark side. He is being manipulated by Salome and the blood. He has not gone all bad because I see glimpses of the real Bill as seen in the last photo I posted here. He is not a happy man and is totally “under the influence.” He will eventually he will be vindicated.
I know the true Bill will return, but I just hope that they don’t wait until next season to tell us, and we then have to wait another 9 months like we had to between Seasons 2 and 3.

Bill is definately a traitor and only he could come up with a plan like blowing up the TB factories putting so many humans at risk. If he was faking, why suggest something like that? create a civil war just to convince them he’s with them? That’s just crazy

This is Bill, it’s in his personality to do this, he betrayed Sookie, he betrayed his Queen (she too called him a fucking traitor) to ascend the ranks in the Authority and now he’s betrayed Eric, the writers have always shown this personality trait in Bill.

Eric and bill have been helping each other this season, Eric trusted that Bill would help in their escape, he thought Bill was on his side, to do the opposite in my eyes is a betrayal. Eric wanted to get them both out of there so yeah I agree with Eric he’s a traitor.
To me it shows real weakness, Salome saw right from the get go Bill was the one she could dupe, his belief in mainstreaming doesn’t appear to have been that strong as he suggested destroying the one thing that can facilitate mainstreaming.

It’s all so very complex and I doubt it will be must clearer in the next episode, the writers are really messing with us. Personally I don’t believe that Bill could change his life philosophy overnight like that, so something else must play a part, my guess is that it’s the blood in combinatin with the need to believe in something. Time will tell. In the meantime Eric thought that Bill would do the right thing and escape with him, so yes, Bill did betray him.

I don’t think that Bill is weak and that Salome is playing on that weakness. As Bill told Eric, he’s lost. Eric was able to overcome the affects of “Lilith’s blood because he saw Godric. Godric was a grounding force for Eric. Bill does not have that. His maker was not “good”, like Godric was. Bill is totally under the influence of that blood, as is Nora. They are both being manipulated to believe that Lilith is god. I do believe that Bill is totally brain washed at this point. He is going to need the love that Eric had with Godric to bring him back. And I hope that the love will be from Sookie.

Godric was Nora’s maker too so while I agree Godric was a positive influence on Eric he is not the sole reason Eric hasn’t surrendered to this, as Nora said he’ll always be a Viking :)

I also believe Bill has a plan. And he has to make it look real so Salome trusts him completely. Unfortunately it comes at a sacrifice. The factories and innocent humans lives. Bill doesnt have a plan. while sleeping with Salome, he sees Sookie then feeds on her till she goes limp. Then Lilith appears to him as if to say good job and the look on his face is saying yes this is my path, I am chosen. Thats where we lost him… Even if he said he was doing this for Eric its because he truly believes now and wants Eric to be sucked in just like Nora..
Alan Ball said some characters completely change. Bill needs to go through this and I honestly believe it will last into next season unless Eric can knock some sense into him in the finale with the help of Sookie…
Anyway, just my opinion…

From what we’ve seen so far, I have to agree, Logic. It looks to me like Bill is under the influence of Lilith’s blood (or whatever hallucinogenic mind-altering substance it is) and Salome’s manipulation. He is being carefully guided by her into becoming her trophy-vamp, aiding her plan for total power and a God-like status.
She even said, during her seductive dance for Bill, that she will now be known for instituting a new world order, and not just because of her biblical role.

Very nicely summarized, Lynn. I was surprised to see the ifrit and hate group story lines wrap in one episode. I expected them to continue on. Not that I’m displeased. The whole smoke monster thing was growing tedious for me. I am sorry that Terry has Patrick’s blood on his hands. However, he and Arlene are safe and I’m grateful for that.
I’m sorry Bud Dearborn turned out to be such a hate group zealot. He was under Sweetie’s influence, she of the pink and red outfits and the fuzzy slippers. Not what you’d expect to see a villain wearing. But then True Blood’s villains are never who and what you’d expect.
Why was Martha carrying were pup Emma? If she’d been a regular girl, Russell might have left her alone. Sam and Emma will be hot on her trail, that’s for sure. As shifters they contributed mightily to the take down of Bud, Sweetie and the hate group fanatics. Sam in the pig pen was quite a sight. Glad he was there to rescue Sookie.
Russell and Steve are an entertaining twosome and growing closer together.
Lafayette had some great lines this episode. The medium business is definitely booming for our favorite short order cook.
There’s a new sheriff in town, and Pam’s first meeting with him did not go well. Looks like there is license to feed on humans, and the bar is open.
I hate seeing Bill descend to the dark side. Part of me believes he is playing the Authority. However, it’s a very small part. I think he is under the influence of the blood (not sure if it’s Salome’s or Lilith’s). I hope something happens to snap him out of it.
I hope Hoyt makes it. He looks to be in bad shape. Both Jessica and Jason are distraught over his plight.
This was a disturbing episode for me, mostly because of what is happening to Bill. Time will tell how it all turns out.
[Reply]
Nice recap Lynn.
I’m pleased the ifrit story has wrapped up. It seemed so disconnected from the rest of the show. Kudos to Arlene for pushing past her hysteria to aid Terry. I had worried that either Terry or Hoyt would not survive the season.
Poor Hoyt’s fate is still to be determined. I’m unsure if the hogs got to him before the rescue. Jessica could heal him if Maxine let her near him. Not sure he wants to live.
Even with Bud Dearborn’s distaste for fangers as he calls them I was taken aback by him belonging to a hate group so reminiscent of the KKK’s tactics. The great and powerful dragon turned out to be a lovelorn toddlers and tiaras reject that squealed like a little pig running out of that barn. Luna gave her a good dose of justice.
* on Deadwood they often disposed of bodies by feeding them to the pigs
Thumbs up for Andy, Jason, Sam and Luna for tracking down those idiots.
I’m so upset over Emma being taken by Russell as a pet for Newlin.
I think Emma has enjoyed being a puppy and I hope her instincts will tell her she will safer if she stays in that form around Russell and Steve until she can be rescued. Above all keep her away from that child eating creep Nigel. Btw he was absent from the vamp group dinner.
This werewolf pack really is one step above Hotshot on the rung of supes. Russell’s condescension of them may be justified.
Pam and Tara’s love/hate relationship is fun to watch. What a shock to Pam, her maker has been replaced as Sheriff with someone from ghouls-R-Us. How dare him be so uppity with Pam?
Hopefully Sookie will solve murder of her parents. Loving Laffy being back to his sassy self.
The Authority or as I now think of it the Cuckoo’s nest is truly a
madhouse. Salome’s drink the Kool-aid policy has truly infected and induced irrational thinking and in Nora’s case made her bat shit crazy.
I think some of the others it is simply survival but once far enough under the influence they willingly go along with the program.
I am not really anxious about Bill yet. As he said himself he doesn’t know who he can trust. In the past he has had to rely on himself alone so we will see if he needs and gets help or if he is trying to find a way to bring the madness to an end. Running away will do no good, there is no place to hide from the Authority. Sometimes the way to dismantle something is from the inside out.
As Jason the said “the world has gone to hell in a hand bucket”. lol
*I think they should have used the song, what if God were one of us.
It poopped in my head as I heard Bill say what if God is a vampire?

Loved seeing Luna and Sam getting brought into Bud/Sweetie’s storyline so that it could be resolved. Loved, loved, loved seeing Luna take down Sweetie and beat the crap out of her.
Hope Hoyt isn’t a goner and that we get the old Hoyt back.
Sam complementing Andy on his sheriff skills was sweet.
Pam and Tara has some great interactions at Fantasia. They are comedy gold. Hate the new sheriff. Looks like a Chris Angel wannabe. And that’s not a good thing.
So glad the smokemonster is gone. I hated every inch of it, sans Laffy trying to help in the last episode.
Oh, an Alcide flashback. How boring. And unnescessary. Hai Terminator.
Russel and Steve are great. They better not harm Emma!
Still have no idea who Warlow is.
I’m still hanging onto the belief that our William Compton is not completely lost to the dark side. I truly believe that if you take away the blood, this spill will be broken. Bill’s lost the love of his life. He’s vulnerable. Lost. Perhaps a bit broken. Can there be an easier target for some good old fashioned brainwashing? Salome couldn’t have picked a better person to ensnare in her trap. He’s looking for something, anything to believe in. And now, because of this blood, he has it. Is it pretty? Nope. Not at all. But, it is what it is.
But, even if he’s not playing some kind of game to take down the Authority (which I still see as a possibility), I can still see him clawing his way out of this darkness once he separates himself from the blood. I really do.
It’s funny, its times like these that I wish Lorena was still around. She wouldn’t allow this brainwashing of her William! lol
[Reply]
I’ve been kind of down since Sunday night, but I am trying to turn my mood around by remembering some enjoyable spots in episode 5:09.
Lafayette’s “seance” was hilarious! His get-up, his jangley bracelet, the candles, and how he faked contacting the dead – just cracked me up. Especially his shock when the spirit actually appeared!
While Andy, Jason, and the others were looking through the Obama masks in evidence, wondering why they chose those masks, Jason poses: “Wouldn’t it be so noone would recognize them?”
Sam blurting out those momentous words while arguing with Luna, saying it’s not sexist to protect someone you love (parrot-phrasing). That was so cute! and Luna’s surprise, stumbling over words like “me too.”
My personal favorite: Bill, naked! Yipee! It’s about time. And he looked especially scrumptious! His chest and shoulders just kill me!
[Reply]
Although I may be disturbed by this complete turn-around in Bill, I do appreciate the new juxtapositioning of him and Eric.
The writers couldn’t have Eric be the vampire who joins in with Salome, Nora, and the crazy chancellors, because that wouldn’t be too much of a reach for Eric. We would believe that Eric had a plan. We would also believe that Eric could be killing humans as part of his usual activities. We’ve never been told that Eric doesn’t kill his prey. There really wouldn’t be the drama that there is with Bill doing these things. And that’s because Bill is the vampire who has championed mainstreaming, has become part of the BonTemps community, and has not killed his prey for at least 30 years, and probably more.
So Bill’s history makes this turn of character a real fall-from-grace.

Like Ive mentioned before you can believe Bill being seduced by it because the writers have shown he is susceptible to it, he needs something more than himself and it changes, it was Sookie now it’s Salome/Lilith

Religion is something that affects a large majority of the world population, you can’t blame someone for wanting to believe in something bigger than himself. People who don’t believe in a god are the minority.
Sookie is the love of his life, Salome/Lilith is a whole different ball game. He doesn’t love Salome and Lilith is an illusion.

Lynn your Random Thoughts hit the mark as always. Mine will be very brief this fine around.
Little Emma was kidnapped by the Russell and it broke my heart and tore at me; I was not expecting that twist. Bravo writers.
Bill has been kidnapped, not in person but his soul his self identity and it happened too abruptly and it’s disturbing. No bravo to the writers on this I don’t follow…..
I’m still holding out a very small kernel of hope that Bill in between the 3 in 1 shaggathon with Salome (it was nice to see some Bill skin) and spacing out trips on the holy meth blood knows he has to stay and rid humanity of the evil that is the Authority. If not I need to start evolving ……..

Yep as usual I am a bit late to comment and most are planning for tonight, but with work I get behind and check updates on here when I can. Before the comment Kevin Alejandro will be at Monstermania con in Cherry Hill NJ August 17 through 19th .I will be working the show don’t know if I will get to see him If I do I will take a pic.
Now onto Salome, I have been toying with the idea of her being a Fae turned Vampire her blood is a drug she can play with your perception of who she is, how you see her and seems to have the ability to know what people are thinking .The show has never really pointed out what blood sharing does between 2 vampires other than that shared with the vampires maker .The power of a Fae blood when turned vampire would be extremely powerful and also allowing that vampire into connecting as maker with those who have shared it.
