Last Saturday Rutger Hauer received an important Dutch national decoration when he was named Ridder in de Orde van de Nederlandse Leeuw (Knight in the Order of the Dutch Lion). The actor received the honor for his exceptional acting performances from the Commissioner of the King in Friesland. Hauer has played roles in over 125 films in the past four decades, most recently he played Freddie Heineken in the film about his abduction and of course Niall in True Blood.
He received the honors in his home in the Dutch province Friesland, the actor usually lives in Hollywood, where for the occasion the National Red Cross Rally had its finish this Saturday. Hauer is very active in several charitable organizations, including this race and his own Starfish foundation.
