    Hey Roth!
Wanted to make a couple comments. First, I believe Eric had the bleeds when talking to Hadley because he didn’t go to ground. He stayed up so he could have an unobserved conversation with Hadley telling her to warn Sookie.
Secondly, I don’t know if the pace of Eric enacting his revenge was to his liking. I’m thinking he had to speed things up because he knew Russell was on his way to Sookie and he was using the timing of Talbot’s death as a diversion to get Russell away from her.

    Hey Meg!

Yes-I had forgotten about the bleeds :).

That makes sense on the timing – judging by the previews for tonight’s he didn’t have all his ducks in a row.

    Thanks!

  2. The Blood from their ears generally means they are up during the day… they start bleeding if they don’t get their rest.

    Roth,
Thanks for your great re-caps of the episodes. They are entertaining and very insightful.
Regarding the blood trickle at Eric’s ears in the hallway scene with Hadley, I understand it to be an involuntary response to the vamp being awake during daylight hours, while not being exposed to the sun. It weakens them to be awake and moving during the daytime and that is the outward evidence, but they only die (except Bill!) if they are exposed to direct sunlight. This was also visible when Lorena stayed awake to continue to torture Bill in the shed prior to meeting her (much deserved) end.
Queen Sophia Ann also had the same symptoms during a few of her last scenes with the King and Eric.
Hope this helps – looking forward to Sunday night!

Wow, this is your best review ever Roth!
You talked and think a lot about the characters.
I agree about your Eric insight and at the same time I think Meg’s comment above has a good point too.
I’ve read a couple of times that Eric’s revenge (or step #1 of his revenge) was a coward act. I don’t agree with that at all. People who says that didn’t analized the situation and character properly.

As far as Bill&Sookie crazy sex escene. I think it’s much more deep than just raw sex. Their conection is too deep, I think there’s more and it was done with a purpose. Or at least I like to think that.

And yes, Bill&Jessica where the best of the best!!!
I loved both of them. Amazing actors.

    I agree with you guys,
Eric’s bleeding from his nose and ears
was due to being awake during daytime.
    In my opinion,
that act of him was one of many little things
that showed how important Sookie is to him.

Loved the comments! About Lafayette – thanks for the insights. As I was watching those scenes about Lafayette having natural power, it worked for me on several levels. Could have just been that he’s an intense person with natural charisma – but as you point out, the suggestion that it means more can’t be avoided. My first hypothesis is that they are setting up something for coming episodes. I haven’t read the books in a while, but SPOILER ALERT doesn’t book four have scenes that require Bubba? Maybe they are setting up so Lafayette can play a role in that conflict, by having a(n undeveloped) natural affinity for the power that the book four villains have. We already have Holly coming in, so this might be part of that same groundwork. Also, funny observation that Arlene might be the most ordinary person, especially given how her character develops in the books. They are doing a great job showing how that mentality might develop.
And I so agree that the way the Eric – Russell dynamic is playing out is fascinating. “Yes!” “No!” Terrific moment and fabulous acting. Eric’s connection with those he cares about was also shown, every so briefly, in the tender way he treated Pam and how he prioritized rescuing her over the other items on his agenda. Looking forward to seeing how that might play out in his relationship with Sookie!

    Hey,

Thanks! What you say about what they are setting up for Lafayette in the upcoming story lines makes sense. I agree as well on Arlene’s development – they are giving her flavor and reasons behind how she feels. I too am looking forward to seeing how that relationship develops :)
    Thanks!

Hey Roth: Loved your review. I too will be disappointed if Laffy is anything other than human. Despite what he does to make money to support his mom, I believe he is very spiritual as evidenced by when Sookie was near death in the hospital and his Inuit speech. Perhaps Jesus is something “different?” Maybe I was one of the few thoroughly disgusted with Sookie in this episode. The girl fight was fine, but getting back with Bill at the end just made me sick. She is an idiotic girl that won’t let go of a mann who has cheated on her, lied, broke her heart and almost killed her. I have seen others say it was all in the name of “TRUE LOVE” but I just find it nauseating. For me, she needs to go to a 12 step program. She glosses over the fact that he kept a file on her, which they will talk about this week according to the previews. UGH. Alex Skarsgards scene with RE and Talbot were really well done. Loved how he sucked up to RE and drew Talbot in. Considering some of the other sex scenes that have been shown, I thought it was tasteful really. Great review Roth, thanks.

I totally agree with you the sex scene was nausateing. I was upset even though it was very angry sex including it ending with both them having a hand on the others throat (not sure if anyone caught that i had to slow it down to see it) it was distrubing that she would even go there after all he has done, I guess it could be her way of showing him she’s in control now and is tired of takng the sh#% just a funny way of showing t..lol and the true love thing..i’m sure that they have love but there comes a time when you have to quit being a rug…Lol and i think she has a been a large one for him! I just hope she smarts up by the next episode and starts asking quesiotns. I know I watched the making of the episode with the writers and they explained that this was the end of her and bill and beginning of her taking control of her life? I’m pretty sure thats what it said anyway

You know what bugs me about Sookie using sex to “be in control?” Hello? Bill is totally getting something out of it too. Why can’t she be in control by using her brain and battling her emotions? Alcide is right. Sookie is sort of a doormat. But she still has time to realize it and do something about it I guess. I just hope it’s not episode twelve.

Yes Bill lied and had sex with Lorena. But he also walked out into the sun to save her and saved the whole town from the maened. He has light in him and darkness and it’s his “being different” that attracted her to him in the first place. The heart doesn’t always do what the head knows is best. Letting go is harder then holding on.

    Jasperann Reply:

I just figured that the sex was because of Sookie having so much of Bill’s blood recently and just being in a fight. I hope it was good bye for now though. I really like Bill when he isn’t around Sookie…lol

Shadaliza, I have to say that you are correct. A lot of domestically abused women stay with the men that do it to them. I’m not saying it is completely the same. But it can be compared, considering he almost killed her. And the excuse that he wasn’t himself and he was starving could be compared to the men that say that they black out and don’t remember beating their wives. It still isn’t right. (I do realize that this is a work of fiction, but most fiction is based in some fact. lol) I know you love Bill and Sookie, so I won’t say anything else. But that is the main thing that bothers me about it, especially coming from a home that was like that growing up.

    wiwa Reply:

Bill’s unconscious attack is not comparable to a wifebeater who drinks himself into a blackout. He did not choose to be kidnapped, tortured or drained. Drunks make the choice and take the risk with the first drink.

    [Reply]

    avatar

    Jasperann Reply:

In my case, my father didn’t drink. He was a manic depressive and it wasn’t diagnosed until I was a teenager. Long after my mom had left. So he could be the sweetest person ever and then turn into a monster. So the comparison works for me.

    avatar

    Shadaliza Reply:

A human and a vampire are a bad match… period. But we so love to watch their struggle to make something good out of it. Eric fans should realize that Eric would have done exactly the same thing when starved. The darkness is in their nature.

I don’t want to go down the domestic violence road, because I can’t compare a vampire to a drunk wifebeater, the 2 are too different.

    [Reply]

    avatar

    Jasperann Reply:

They are a bad match… I agree completely. I also know that if it was Eric he probably would have killed her, because he doesn’t seem to have the same restraint programed into him when it comes to humans. So it would have been ‘nothing’ to him. So in that regard I’m glad it was Bill, or we wouldn’t have our Sookie any more.

All I was doing with my original post is showing a different point of view. So that some people might understand why some people (mainly me because I can’t speak for everyone else) can’t get behind the logic of ‘But Bill loves her and has saved her’. For me it doesn’t matter, because of my background. It doesn’t mean that because you don’t agree with me your wrong. It just mean that we think differently…lol

    billsluvr Reply:

Jasperann, believe me when I say that I do understand where you are coming from. But Bill and Eric aren’t a human at all. They’re Vampires (predators by nature) and we are their natural prey. They may try to live as humans and fall in love with a human. But that instinct to kill a human is always there and that’s what Bill hates. That’s what he’s at war with. He doesn’t want to kill, but it’s in his nature. Putting nearly tortured to death, starved and beaten Bill into the back of that truck with Sookie was like putting a starved, beaten, domesticated lion in a cage with the human that raised it. Sorry, but that lions survival instinct is taking over and it’s going to attack.

    Hey Ann!

Thanks for your post! Great to hear your thoughts and I can certainly understand where you are coming from! I think Tara stands in for those of us who would be saying the exact same things to our good friends in the scenario. It’s so frustrating to watch a good friend in a relationship that is bringing them pain. And frustrating to see them go back for more. They started to explore why Sookie would be drawn to this world a bit in this ep – in the book a lot of that came out in conversations between her and Sam. Maybe they will start to explore some of that.
    POSSIBLE BOOK SPOILER:

She also ended it decidedly right after he cheated on her in the book. I think this creative team is trying to find ways around the developments in the book by creating similar situations but having it be “not Bills fault”. Not sure how I feel about that – I can understand the motivations for developing things this way…but… I feel she has become a very different sort of person than the character in the book who I liked and admired so much.

    Thanks!

    Great review Roth,

Whatever they decided to make Lafayette, I hope that it is something unique ( eg, not whatever Sookie turns out to be). I would like it to be something that we haven’t seen yet on the show. What about a warlock?

The method of killing Talbot gave new meaning to the expression “you have to cover your butt” sorry, I couldn’t resist.

I’m hoping that part 2 of Eric’s revenge will involve setting Nan Flanders after Russell, that’s a fate worse than the true death!

Hey, Roth! Insightful and funny review as always. I think Debbie Pelt’s comment/thought should be and maybe will be explored further. Sookie being rejected by society is an idea only scratched on the surface of Season one. Something so genuine about Sookie in the books is how she reacts to hurtful comments or thoughts by “ordinary” people. And dangit, the only way she’ll get to experience this in the show if she takes a legitimate break from Bill. Or from any relationship. I don’t mean to rush her, but there are only a few episodes left, Sookie.

BTW, how pathetic is her one picture in a scrapbook? Is that her only memory where she doesn’t end up bloody or injured? That should cause her to hault right there.

Call it the adrenaline sex or the possibly peace out sex, I’m just glad I didn’t have to watch it for too long. The only redeeming thing will be if she considers it a mistake in the next episode.

I also agree with you about Lafayette and Bon Temps. There have to be some “normal” people there. Jeez. I guess that’s also a reason why I’m not a fan of the Calvin Norris switch. I liked the fact that there were strange supernatural beings, who were still trying to make a living among the humans. Sam, Alcide and even Calvin were people Sookie could depend on, when she couldn’t exactly trust vampires.

Liked all of Eric’s moments. And the fact that Talbot got staked with his Japanese Vampire erotica scroll(one of Russell’s trivial possessions). I also liked Jessica’s training and her cute moment waving at the wolf.

I thought the same thing about Tommy. Maybe he can’t read very well or not at all. I’m also getting the vibe that they’re setting up the Jessica/Tommy/Hoyt thing to mirror Sookie/Bill/better choice??? Like Alcide maybe?

I’m excited to see all the consequences of all the actions taken in episode 8.

Thanks. Man I totally agree with your first paragraph – that is what I have been saying. It’s such a great element to her character. That part of her that is vulnerable and yet still has such strong self esteem. I honestly don’t know if that balance has been struck here.

I miss Sookies friendship with Sam, not sure how she can be close to this Calving at all . But I do like how they are bringing along her relationship with Alcide.

“got staked with his Japanese Vampire erotica”

So didn’t notice that! Thanks for pointing it out.

Hi Roth, great episode and loved your review. Since you see who’s in my name you will know the answers to where I want Bill and Sookie to be, together. There breaking up hospital goodbye was heartbreaking.
As for the reunited, raw, release the darkness in me and you hurt me sex, it was awesome. Their relationship has evolved to this point and Sookie has been through a lot, plus she’s very strong from all the V in her! A little rug burn and chocking won’t hurt him! LOL
Franklin cannot be dead! I want him alive. I need a good fright when he shows up again. hehe
Sam and Tara, TAM! Yes, Yes, Yes. As much as I love Franklin, in a bad way and love Tara with him the TAM match up is the best. Those two together were too short lived, which is always the case with some of the TB couples, i.e. Hoyt & Jessica.
Loved Bill and Jessica, she’s the best thing for this vampire psyche.
I agree about Debbie Pelt, Sookie had a loaded gun and should have use it and told Tara I’ve killed with pride, it was self defense. (people are going to say but the books, the books)
Eric, has the day bleeds, and his revenge is taking place but as a Bill fan I don’t like his message to her not to trust Bill.
Sam + family- for the dogs, leave my Hoyt alone! I love Sam though.
Jason + Crystal – they both need saving, he from himself she from the inbreeding, but I don’t know if breeding with Jason is any improvement.
Lafayette – I just love him no matter what.

Hi Roth I really loved your review. To your question of would I like to see Bill and Sookie get back together. I’d like to see them overcome the obstacles and get back together and be happy. But should she get back with Bill or should she get with ANY vampire? Bill has proven that, if he hasn’t been tortured to near death, starved and completely out of his mind, he would do anything to keep her safe.

In the beginning, it wasn’t just Sookie breaking up with Bill. It was also Bill breaking up with Sookie. All that he wanted was for her to have a happy life and he didn’t feel that he could provide that for her, so he let her go. He was putting her first.

I’m with you about Lafayette. It’s going to be a big mistake to make him some kind of supernatural being. He’s just too good at being human. It’s his humanness that makes him to relatable and likeable. I’m really missing season 1. Although there were shapeshifters and vampires, the show was still very grounded in reality. They have gotten a little too far away from that. One of the reasons that I like Jessica and Hoyt so much is because he’s so human and she’s so vampire. I like seeing that relationship play out, because of that.

I loved Jessica and Bill. I think AB should run with that. They just work together. Honestly, they could be the best pair on the show.
