We still all have True Blood’s season 2 freshly in our memories, but the first casting calls for season 3 have already gone out. The King of Mississippi was the first to be added to the list of fresh blood. Another character that has already been spoken about a lot is Alcide. Alcide is a werewolf who plays an important part in the third book of the Southern Vampire Mysteries by Charlaine Harris, “Club Dead”.
I would like to suggest Mr. Will Swenson for the part of Alcide.

Will Swenson and Mary Jo
Will Swenson was born in 1979, is 6.2″ and was nominated for the 2009 Tony Award for Best Performance for a Featured Actor in a Musical for “Hair”.
My friend Mary Jo went to see “Hair” on Broadway the other day and waited outside the stage door like a teenage groupie to catch a glimpse of Will. He graciously signed her playbill and posed for a pic. When asked if he would be our Alcide he responded: “Not that I know of, but I’d love to!” He also went on to say: “Keep spreading the rumors!”
We have no idea yet who will play Alcide, in Mr. Ball we trust. But who would you like to see as Alcide? Post your ideas in the comments.

He’s my first choice. Love Will Swenson…if you are in the NewYorkCity area and want to see a wonderful show – stop by HAIR to see Will. He is playing the lead, Berger.
He’s talented, gorgeous and a perfect fit for Alcide. I like that he is not a recognisable actor like some of the names that have been bandied about to portray Alcide.

Nice find! He looks a bit like a young Daniel Day Lewis (can’t do better than that!) Alan Ball please take note. :)

How about Marco Dapper…look him up….nice and wolfy looking…

Personally, I think Eric Bana would be HOT in that role… he’s a great actor and so darn pretty it hurts.

I posted a plea for Will to be Alcide on my FB page August 29th! Then Pam Northman Ravenscroft from South America took it from my page and posted it on her’s, then someone from Norway took it from her site and posted it on the True Blood Fan Page. LOL! Let the Zeitgeist commence!!!! So glad your friend asked him! Maybe he’ll ask his agent to submit him or maybe we should send a program to AB’s production company. Here’s the link to this gorgeous picture of Will on my page:

Hello again Amelia :)
I`m the one from Norway that posted pic of Will Swenson on FB hehe:-) I really hope our wishes will come true about this one!! And I just love it if this happens because of you, Pam and me promoting him on FB:-)!! He`s the only one for this role, and I`m completely amased and frustrated by all the people who disagree when I suggest him on the fanpage.

Check out Eddie Cibrian. He’d be great, especially with the scruffy five-o’clock shadow. If your doing an image search, look for the pic of him in the towel to see what I mean.
[Reply]
I still think Christian Kane would make the perfect Alcide Herveaux. He’s the man I’ve imagined ever since he was first described in the books.

I never watched True Blood but I have lots of friends who do. I think Will Swenson would be a great addition to the cast. I would definitely watch the show if he was in it.

Oh yes! Will would be perfect for the role of Alcide! He’s so purty! Alan Ball….are you listening?

He actually has a very muscular body when you see him with less clothing. In Hair on Broadway there`s a part where he`s in just a leather cloth and a west, and my o my that guy is fit! But I do agree that he looks alot smaller with clothes on.
[Reply]
I always pictured Jeffrey Dean Morgan in my head when I had read the books. He’s gotta be my number one choice, although this guy looks pretty much what I pictured as well.

Me too! JDM was who I saw while reading. He has the look and the build. Javier Bardem would be a close second. Will seems a little slight for a werewolf… They’re supposed to be heavy muscle as opposed to leaner muscle, like a body builder versus a swimmer? Plus the Alcide character is really thoughtful, funny and sweet but very rough and manly looking in contrast to the pretty vampires. I think JDM would bring that out.
[Reply]
wow..that he even knew who Alcide was is kinda a huge hint!? maybe….hmmmmmm

I will accept Will as Alcide. He looks good. I have my heart set on Eric Bana but but he may be too well known.

Calvin is a bit older iirc but not alot older than the rest of Sookie’s suitors. He is very fit and strong and attractive. I’d like to see someone say in their mid forties have that role if AB includes that storyline. I’ll have to think of actors in that age range to cast in that role. Someone with that tawny hair color and powerful personna.
I still want Eric Bana as Alcide. He just exudes alpha wolf imo.

PLEASE CAST WILL. HE IS GORGEOUS…I’m calm now, don’t cast this guy: We WANT Sookie to miss Bill.
[Reply]
All these men seem like wonderful choices to play Alcide, good luck to Will Swenson. Here are my top 2, choices.
Eduardo Verastegui ~ IMHO I have always seen Alcide as Cajun or possibly Latin, he would make Sookie forget about Eric and heaven forbid Bill. He has wolf written all over him. Tall, dark and handsome.
Henry Cavill ~ just watch one episode of Tudors and you will see what I mean.

Heidi Reply:

I love Henry on the Tudors but he’s ON the Tudors so he wouldn’t be available! I feel like we should just think of people who aren’t in contracted roles currently on TV. Though one can dream. I’d watch him in anything!
That said I picture Gale Harold (or Harrold…not sure of the spelling) – when I read of Alcide’s description.

This is the last season for the Tudors and I believe it will finish production by the time TB rolls around, but as you said one can dream, Henry Cavill is already starting to be well known and TB likes to cast somewhat unknowns or relatively unknown actors.
Gale Harold……. very deserving of an audition.

Thanks!
I just watched the new episode of the Tudors – it premiered tonight -Henry Cavill continues to be ‘hot’ and I must say he is underused at the moment. he was way more prominent first season and then somewhere along the way after his lover’s death he married a quiet woman that he seems to love ery much. Its sweet but boring. He has more talent to give us! So maybe he’d jump ship to Tru Blood by the time Alcide is present!
If not, Gale Harrold is just amazing. The character’s he’s played have been bold, he goes for what he wants, inflames others with passion (whether they hate him or lust after him or love him), and intense. He’s well over six feet, brawny but muscled, dark haired/eyes and olive complexioned (or maybe just tanned? He looks like he could be Italian mixed with something else, maybe Scottish? Alan Ball should take a look at his body of work and give him a call!!

Would it not be funny if he was her human but he had the upperhand with her? It makes me laugh to think about it. And they would be hot together.

OMG Thank you for correcting that… Since they seem to be taking one book per season, we’ve got until season 5 to worry about who will be Quinn… THat’s going to be a hard one to cast b/c not only does he have to be huge and gorgeous… He’s gotta be “olive toned” as well… Unless they just got with someone who’s really tan or decide to take the makeup route.
I think Olivia Wilde should play Debbie… Although I know it’d be highly unlikely since she still has a major role in House (she’d be working all year long since one is spring and one is fall… Unfortunately it’s not realistic, but she’d be perfect)

Interesting option Lynne, but I don’t think he’s more than 5’10″…I could be wrong –
Am I the only person who knows who Gale Harrold (Brian from Queer as Folk) is? He’s pictured as having one of the hottest love scenes of all time on Entertainment Weekly’s recent article (on their home page)

Mark Lutz… I’m a genius… He played the groosalugg on Angel back in the day and even then I though he had a very werewolfy feel to his characteristics (especially with the longer hair as pictured above)… And he’s hunky. :-D

Russell Crowe. His eyes photograph beautifully, he’s got fab hair that tousle’s in a lovely fashion, and while not terribly tall at 5’11″, he’s big and burly and rough and tough. His acting chops go without saying. I would love to see him and Alex playing off each other, it would be fascinating!

Someone needs to contact Ball about this, stat! Rusty is in Pittsburg as we speak, filming The Next Three Days with Paul Haggis. He should be done by December!
Ms. Harris has even mentioned Russell in connection to werewolves!
Russell Crowe cast in werewolf mould
June 12, 2009 12:00am
RUSSELL Crowe may be having a hard time playing the most famous man in tights in the troubled Robin Hood flick.
But one supernatural expert believes his problems may have something to do with the fact he could be a werewolf.
American Charlaine Harris, whose True Blood books boast a four-million-plus readership and have spawned the sexed-up HBO series on Foxtel, names Crowe as the “most likely” actor to be a werewolf.
“I love Russell Crowe, I’m a big fan,” Harris says. “I don’t think he will find out, I don’t think he would be the type to read my books.”
Well if Hugh Jackman can be Wolverine, why can’t big beefy Russ join the hairy party?

Hmmm….a lot of good choices. But what about a different spin…I know he’s known mainly for comedy, but physically I think he fits the bill with all his wild long dark hair and eyebrows, plus he’s really tall, just give him some green contact lens……Russell Brand.

I would love to see Michael Sheen play the part of Alcide. He played awesome supernatural characters in his previous movies (He played Lucian a werewolf in “Underworld” and the prequel “Underworld: Rise of the Lycans”). He also plays Aro, the Vampire leader of the Volturi in the Twilight sequel “New Moon”. He did an INCREDIBLE job in the Underworlds, and hands down my favorite werewolf of all time. It would be incredible to see him play this part although it is very unlikely since big name movie actors rarely take big parts in a TV series. I can only hope I guess.
[Reply]
I always pictured him looking like Jeffrey Dean Morgan… all cuddly yet menacing. Plus he has that screen presence personality that Harris alway described Alcide with in the books. His personality fills the room so to speak. Yeah and the large build, dreamy eyes, olive skin and thick dark hair. I know they want to stay with more big screen unknowns but he would be an awesome Alcide, or at least find someone who looks like him.
[Reply]
I think Eric Bana would definatly fit the part! He has the look’s, the body, and the deep voice. Not to mention he’s a great actor. I think he might even get into it! :)

I think Ray Stevenson (Titus Pullo in Rome) would be a good choice. He’s got that “i could kill you with one hand but I am secretly quite sensitive” thing going on….

Actually, the guy who played the king of the Gauls in Rome would probably be a good choice too. There was something really compelling about him.
