True Blood season 4 Fairies will be sinister and badass

SPOILER ALERT

Many fans have made it very clear that they are not thrilled with the look and atmosphere of Fairy Land. This has not gone unnoticed and True Blood writer Brian Buckner addresses the issue in his commentary on the season 3 DVD.

Bruckner comments on episode 7 together with Anna Paquin and Joe Manganiello. During the hospital scene where Sookie visits Fairy Land he says:

“Let me address one thing and it’s an interesting phenomena on the show because in the age of the internet it’s very easy to find out what your audience thinks about everything. People were sort of unanimously not thrilled with Fairy Land, but I do want to say that this isn’t actually Fairy Land. It’s a hallucinatory dream and it’s what Fairies are presenting about themselves to try to get Sookie to come with them. So think of it as a trap and the real Fairy is going to be something very very different and more sinister. I promise”

Joe Manganiello: “Sinister Fairies?”

Buckner: “Oh yes. Badass.”

Joe: “I didn’t know this was a trap. I thought that all Fairies lived in Lilith Fair or something.”

The most negative thing Anna read about Fairy Land is that it looks like a Tampax commercial.

These fairies are another departure from the books on which the series is based. Yes, in the books they are strong warriors, but still beautiful, even the evil ones. These fairies looked like a cross between goblins and trolls.

Did they address, in a commentary, how lame they made Alcide and the Weres?

I can't wait for the new season! It's awesome that she's a fairy and I hope she becomes even more fae, and learns how to control her powers. I also, can't wait to see the plot develop and I'm hoping she ends up with Eric (like the books), cause I think Bill is all wrong for her; especially when we found out he let her get beat up and how he's such a good liar. Well, kudos to the writers of the series and Alan Ball, this is one of the best shows on TV!

When we first saw the fairies homebase I said it reminded me of an "I can't beleive it's not butter commercial or something haveing to do with MotherNature". I really was disappointed in what I was seeing. The actress who was chosen to play Claudine is all wrong for the part~she's nothing like Charlaine Harris described in the books~Claudine is supposed to be 6', with dark curly hair and a Vegas showgirl's figure. Instead we got some English lass who's short and has an accent. Come on now~ someone missed the mark or didn't read the books when casting the part!!!! Hopefully some of the mistakes will have been corrected in Season 4???? And you promise that "The fairies will be meaner"?? This I have to see~ I'll hold my opinion till after the Finale airs in September!!!

Anna's tampax comment was priceless. So far, I've been underwhelmed buy what we have seen, but I always thought Alan would show us the nasty side of the fae. Good to have confirmation. Even in the S4 clip at HBO Go, Sookie asked Claudine where she was all those other times she needed help. I thought it was maybe a hint that there is something sinister going on.

'Drinking the light keeps the Earthly fae in the dark – forever!'- This was my comment in an earlier post on this Fae clip. Sookie is a smart cookie (pun LOL) and I don't think wants to be dancing, swimming, wearing Princess Leia's slave costume and stuck in her 20's forever, ageless like a vampire but a fairy faced zombie forever. I for one want to see how she gets herself out of the Fairyland that is not what it seems.

I love Joe/Alcide, and always felt he and Sookie could have made it...and Sookie needs to try out something besides vampires. And yes, I always knew we were not seeing the real fairyland..and yes, there have been a lot of whiners before the new seasons even started. Charlaine's fairies were exactly the same, just took a while to get there...except for Claudine, but she was a fighter.

Now it's even more interesting how in Sookie will manifest itself her fairy blood.

What is it with this Joe guy does he know where the bodies are hidden or what? He is the one really bad actor in a show with an excellent cast yet he seems to be the guy you keep pushing at us. He has, or should have, nothing to do with the fairy storyline so why do you have him in this article. I love the show and have all the DVDs and subscribe to HBO only to watch True Blood, but if they keep pushing this so so actor's role to more then the peripheral character he should be the show will no longer be the unique great ensemble show with truly quality acting that is started out as.

Exactly - it's a setup. I had no trouble with it in season 3 or in the recent preview of 4 because I knew there would be more to it, so I didn't understand all the complaining. It's like when kids want you to jump ahead in a story "get to the good part, get to the good part." No, let the story unfold and let the drama and surprises come when they come. Anyway, it was a lovely contrast to all the darkness, literally, in the end of season 3.

Oh my, they noticed. But really, the first 3 minutes for the season premiere is totally lame. I was wondering if it was a joke or something after voicing my opinion from yesterday. We are not expecting Eric or Bill or Alcide to jumping Sookie's bones (YET) that quickly but...........come on, give us some excitement within the first 3 minutes instead of Sookie watching old, new fairies, drinking from the garden of sin and knowing something is wrong. Like s scence at Merlotte's. At least we could have a scene with a fairy ticked off with his so called razor sharp teeth trying to attack 1/8 fairy or something. So Barry must have gotten the gift of telepathy the same way Sookie found out how she inherited it. Must be, now that makes me wonder about Barry's background. His past familly and Sookies past family members must have met the same person years ago and was given the sane gift of telepathy. Interesting!

I can breath a sigh of relief....I always wondered how a show as good as TB could have such a major storyline so mediocre. Now we know...I can't wait for it to play out.

Loved Anna's tampax commercial comment. I kind of figured the sweetness and light business was a come on to entice humans the fae wished to entrap. Can't wait to see how it all plays out.

LOLOL re: the tampax commercial - that's totally what it looks like, only more lame. So glad to hear that the bright/shiny/happy faerieland is just a lure and that we'll see what they're really like at some point. I'd imagine that, just like with humans and vampires and werewolves, there are good and bad faeries around. Can't wait!

If the writers had always blindly followed the books, Lafayette would be dead, Jessica never existed, Bill would have been shipped off ot Peru and Erics maker was a pedophile. I never read all the books and I am happy with the casting.

I mentioned Joe in this article because he, Anna and Brian did the commentary together on this episode and I thought it was funny that he, as a cast member, had no idea about the trap. I have the season 3 dvd, came across this info in the commentary and wrote the article... it has nothing to do with HBO.
