Where does pedovamp Nigel fit into the True Blood season 5 puzzle?

I am intrigued by Nigel Beckford, the badly burnt vampire with a taste for tiny humans who now has joined the new Authority council.

Nigel is played by Henri Lubatti, an experienced actor with a very long list of TV credits, he is best known for his role of Ilija Korjenic on Sleeper Cell.

This is the casting call that Lubatti responded to:

[NIGEL] 30s to 40s. A grotesque-looking vampire prisoner, he’s been scarred, burned and deformed — punishment for his predilection for eating babies. 5 lines, 1 scene.

Those 5 lines and 1 scene have already turned into a growing appearance in 4 episodes and probably more to come.

Nigel Beckford was once a nurse practitioner in a maternity ward, but instead of delivering babies, he would eat them. He was arrested by the Authority and held prisoner in the cells beneath their New Orleans headquarters. In episode 5.08 Nigel mentions that he hadn’t eaten a child in over a decade, which would mean that he was imprisoned all that time. Why would Roman have kept him alive? A baby eating low life like Nigel would have no value whatsoever so why not execute him instantly and free the world from a pedovamp?

Another thing that’s puzzling about Nigel is his appearance. His face and hands are completely burnt and he is not healing. If he was burnt before he was turned into a vampire, the scars would remain with him always, but someone with those looks would not get hired as a nurse in a maternity ward. The burns must have been caused by frequent exposure to the UV light in the cell where he was being held and malnutrition kept him from healing properly. Remember how Bill didn’t heal anymore because of the blood loss when Lorena tortured him. Now that Nigel is drinking human blood again, I see no reason why he shouldn’t start healing, but there are no signs of that yet.

How does Nigel fit into the story? What is his purpose? Why is even there?
I am open to all suggestions of which the wildest would be that Nigel is Warlow the vampire who killed the parents of Sookie and Jason.

There must be a reason why Nigel has not only been released from his cell but apparently has been automatically welcomed to the group of high ranking members of the Sanguinista. Makes you wonder if perhaps he could have been embedded in the holding cells to suss out any vamps with leanings towards the Sanguinista. Eating children has been mentioned before by: Liam's fondness for babies Eric commenting on how tasty teacup humans are Russell announcing on tv how vamps would " we will eat your children" Most likely babies have pure clean blood and therefore tastier. Even Sophia Ann loved the blood of her young Latvian boy because he wasn't polluted I think she said. Not that the books come into play but book Godric was very skeevy and had fed on and abused children for centuries and may well have done so before becoming the enlightened Godric on the show.

Nothing on True Blood is for nothing. There is a reason for the tiniest things, as we've learned over 5 seasons. There is a reason for Nigel. And I think he is Warlow. If you compare the shape of Warlows nose and mouth with the above pic of Nigel it looks like a real possability to me. And the fact that he is so burned and doesn't heal with the fact that Claudine zapped Warlow....well....

Nigel is a curious character, indeed. Why keep the guy around all that time unless he has a particular power or connection that's important to the vampires? The initial casting call suggests that he was a throw-away, fellow prisoner at first. It appears the writers are turning him into something more. All we know for sure is that his story is going to be pretty twisted.

Was he Warlow? Who knows. I'm of the opinion that Warlow wasn't a vamp, but some other type of sup, maybe a demon? It is hard to understand why Nigel was kept prisoner by the Authority; apparently most prisoners were executed. He must be something special, and we'll just have to wait to find out. Was he a character in the books?

Yeah I figure he will be among the death toll in the finale, they have too many new characters this season

There has been some speculation that he might be the mysterious Warlow. I honestly don't know. I cannot understand why he was kept locked up for so long. What did Roman have in mind when he chose to incarcerate him rather than have him meet the true death? Perhaps Salome persuaded Roman that Nigel could be rehabilitated. Salome had Roman's ear. They were lovers. He went along with her request. Was Nigel repeatedly burned to disguise his true identity? Does he have a fae connection? I have more questions than answers. It will be most interesting to see how he fits into the Authority-Sanguinista scenario.

Eh, I think it's just for drama to give us someone's death to look forward to

maybe he's a political prisoner. or most likely : Salome wanted him alive so Roman let her keep him. since she's Sanguinista, she would want him on her team..

The only reason I can see is to show vampires at their lowest and the sanquinistas allowing their basest impulses to be acted on which will enrage the human population quicker than usual. Remember from S1 the un-holy trinity's Liam liking babies blood and even Eric joking or was he about "tea cup humans" when eyeing Arlene's kids, this theme is not new we are just visually seeing it for the first time.

Since the very begining I always have said he is part important of the story, because Roman never killed him

I think he is disgusting. Does he possibly have something to do with Sookie's parents dying? I hope he gets it soon, he creeps me the f*ck out!!

I read the books but don't know if Nigel was in them either, but agree with you, just checked, Warlow does not have TB vampire fangs(the scene in Sooks room) but one tooth further back fangs, he's possibly another type of sup.
