Alfre Woodard to meet the First Lady at the White House

Alfre Woodard, who plays Lafayette’s mom on True Blood, received an invitation to the White House and meet with Michelle Obama during a special event for the annual celebration of Women’s History Month at the White House on March 30th.

Mrs. Obama will bring together more than twenty accomplished women, each paving their way in a variety of fields, to serve as mentors and share their experiences with students in the Washington, D.C. metro area. These women will showcase the important role mentoring can play in the lives of young people as they encourage all students, particularly young women, to pursue their dreams.

The complete list of mentors is published on

Congratulations to Ms. Woodard and to all the women chosen for this honor. What a fine idea … to enable young people to pursue their dreams by having adult role models share their own experiences.
