True Blood’s Kristin Bauer van Straten, who plays Pam on True Blood, says in the video interview below that viewers can expect to find out more about her character’s mysterious relationship to Eric Northman, played by Alexander Skarsgård.
“It’s a very sweet story,” Bauer von Straten said of Pam and Eric’s first meeting in an interview with fans. “I can’t give it away, but it explains so much of where she came from as a human and her vulnerability and how she became a vampire has a lot to do with her choices.” She added that Pam’s back story surfaces early on in the season: “It really informs us of who she is, what we’ve seen for four years, and also why Eric is her one person. So you’ll see, this year I think that question should be answered a lot in the first four episodes.”
Prompted by a fan’s question about Pam in True Blood versus Pam in Charlaine Harris’ novels, upon which the HBO show is based, Kristin opened up about a side of Pam that has not been vividly revealed on television — namely, her same-sex love affairs. “I’ve been wondering that exact question for a couple of reasons,” she said. “I like actually that side of Pam, that she’s different in that area as well. I guess it’s not that different on True Blood, but I really like it. She has only had one interlude, and I was thinking about my mother watching that scene, so if I have more of those scenes I hope that I don’t think about that.”
Bauer van Straten went on to hint at what may become of Pam’s love life in future seasons. “I suspect, that if we go long enough, and also because of the books, that we are gonna see this side of Pam, and I would also love to know who is this person who Pam would be with,” she said. “I mean she really just only has a place in her heart for Eric at this time. So the answer to the question is, it’s highly possible, as it is True Blood, and I’m looking forward to it as well, and my mother probably is not.”
