The Amanda Foundation

The Amanda Foundation was founded in 1976, and has since placed thousands of homeless animals. It is a non-profit organization that rescues dogs and cats who, through no fault of their own, are spending their last days at City and County Shelters.

In Latin the name “Amanda” means worthy of love, so their charity is named not for a person but for their philosophy towards their Dog and Cat companions.

The Vault visited the Amanda Foundation and got an exclusive tour by the President Teri and her assistant Tracy. See the post about it here.

The Amanda Foundation is the only non-profit animal charity in the Los Angeles area to own and operate their own full service Veterinary practice. This allows them to keep their orphans under a Veterinarian’s care from the moment they are rescued until they leave to join their new families. We were quite impressed that this shelter is a “NO KILL” facility. That means that every animal, whether they find a home or not has a home for life at The Amanda.

The Foundation reaches out to help other animal rescue organizations with their rescues by providing services at a reduced cost so that their donation dollars go farther.

Their regular clients are happy to know that the money they spend on their beloved cats and dogs goes to help save the lives of thousands of less fortunate four footed buddies.

Dr. Erin Wilson (formerly of Animal Specialty & Emergency Center) is our full time Veterinarian. In addition to being an excellent diagnostician, Dr. Wilson is a talented surgeon whose skills include FHO surgery, and fractures requiring plates.

The hospital is open Monday through Saturday from 8 am to 6 pm, Thursday we are open late until 8 pm.

The Spaymobile of The Amanda Foundation travels to throughout Los Angeles to Watts, South LA, Pacoima, Boyle Heights, Highland Park, ect. offering free spay/neuter and vaccines. The program is unique because they go into the most under-served neighborhoods and reach out to the communities in familiar and user friendly ways that appeal to the people they want to help.

They don’t know of any other program in the country that is taking their approach, and it is working!

The Amanda Foundation is located at 351 North Foothill Road, Beverly Hills, Ca. 90210
