Vampires can’t stand silver, silver burns in their skin and immobilizes them. They can be wounded but heal extremely fast.

New Orleans is a main centre for vampires.

Sookie Stackhouse is a waitress at Merlotte’s Bar and Grill in Bon Temps. She is telepathic. She hears other peoples thoughts all the time. When she concentrates real hard, she can block the chatter out. She cannot read Bill’s thoughts.
She lives with her grandmother and has a cat named Tina.

Bill Compton is the first vampire ever to come into Merlotte’s and he is the first vampire Sookie ever met.

Tara is Sookie’s friend. She has difficulties keeping a job. She tends bar at Merlotte’s Bar and Grill. She is Lafayette’s cousin. Tara is in love with Jason.

Sam Merlotte is the owner of Merlotte’s Bar and Grill. He is in love with Sookie. He lives in a trailer next to the bar.

Jason Stackhouse is Sookie’s brother.

Dawn is a waitress at Merlotte’s Bar and Grill.

Lafayette is the cook at Merlotte’s Bar and Grill.

Arlene is a waitress at Merlotte’s Bar and Grill. She is dating Rene.

Vampire blood is also called V-juice, it is a powerfull drug that sells for a lot of money. It is obtained by draining a vampire. V-juice makes humans feel healthy and it improves their sexlife.

Humans and vampires can have sexual relations and do so frequently.
Vampire groupies are called fangbangers.

There is a vampire bar in Shreveport.

The dog that hangs around the bar is a collie. Bill seems to know more about that dog. After Sookie saves Bill and the dog licks her face, Bill says that the dog is checking on her. When she says that the dog must live nearby, Bill answers mysteriously: oh, no doubt.
